THE NRL TWEET's ROUND 12 PREVIEW
Welcome to Season 2011... after an off-season that often feels longer (or shorter - depends if you like cricket or not) than it is - the footy is back. Here on www.wdnicolson.com we've got all the Tuesday Team News, Wednesday Previews and Friday Late Mail (sourced from SMH and beyond) that will keep your Tipping and Fantasy habit well fed. This preview integrates our NRL Injured List - which if you haven't bookmarked by now - I suggest you do so.
FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
              V
7:05pm (Local) 27 May @ Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.
Coming In...
SEA EAGLES 3rd TEAM RECORD 7-3 for 16 Points, +55.
BRONCOS 6th TEAM RECORD 7-3 for 16 Points, +48.
Head to Head Last 10...

Tuesday Team News...
MAN: B Stewart, D Williams, Lyon (c), Matai, Hopoate, K Foran, Cherry-Evans, King (c), Ballin, Kite, Watmough, Galuvao, G Stewart. Bench: Mauro, Buhrer, Rose, T Williams, Robinson, Oldfield.
[Team Changes - Brett Stewart will try to return from his troublesome hamstring injury and with Michael Robertson ruled out with a knee injury, Michael Oldfield or Tony Williams could be in line for a start if Stewart can't go. Jason King may not backup giving Tim Robinson or Vic Mauro a chance on the bench. ]
BRI: Beale, Gagai, Copley, Reed, Moylan/Yow Yeh, Norman, Wallace, Dodds/Hannant, McCullough, Kenny, Te'o, Glenn, Parker (c). Bench: Baptiste, Lui, Anderson, Dodds, Hala, Carlaw.
[Team Changes - The Broncos will likely rest Darren Lockyer and Sam Thaiday, Ben Hannant is 50/50 but Jharal Yow Yeh and Corey Parker should backup. Any number of Broncos could miss out from the team named. Josh Hoffman could be a late starter but may be another week away. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
Manly are going very nicely right now and getting Brett Stewart back in a team that is hardly touched by the Origin backup factor makes them hard to tip against. Brisbane will likely rest Lockyer and Thaiday so I'll pick Manly.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - Hannant should play, Lockyer and Thaiday will not. Dane Carlaw will miss out. Des Hasler says Jason King may in fact play, as will Brett Stewart.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
SEA EAGLES To Win By 10 Points.

FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Tuesday Team News...
CBY: Barba, Turner, Morris, Idris, Goodwin, Keating, Hodkinson, Ryan (c), Ennis, Kasiano, Pritchard, Foster, Stagg. Bench: Eastwood, Payne, Halatau, Hodgson.
[Team Changes - Michael Ennis should back up from Origin 1 but Aiden Tolman is out with a knee injury suffered last week. Andrew Ryan finally moves to the #8 jersey and Jake Foster starts in the second row. Michael Hodgson comes onto the bench. ]
GLD: Campbell, Michaels, Tonga, Thompson, Mead, Zillman, Prince (c), Bailey, Brown, Henderson, Bird, Minichiello, Harrison. Bench: White, James, Tagataese, O'Dwyer.
[Team Changes - Bodene Thompson returns from injury at the expense of Joseph Tomane in the centres, while Greg Bird and Ashley Harrison are game time decisions after playing Origin1. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
With all the ball and field position the Bulldogs had last week against Canberra they should've won by 18 points... they lost by 8. The Titans had a crack v Manly in Round 10 but fell short, if Canterbury use their outside backs the Titans will fall short again. Go with the Bulldogs.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Titans have put Joseph Tomane, Ben Ridge and Matt Srama on standby if Greg Bird and Ashley Harrison can't backup. The Dogs will be 1-17 with Josh Reynolds their 18th man.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
BULLDOGS To Win By 6 Points.

SATURDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

5:35pm (Local) 28 May @ AusGrid Stadium, Newcastle.
Coming In...
KNIGHTS 9th TEAM RECORD 4-6 for 10 Points, -8.
EELS 11th TEAM RECORD 4-6 for 10 Points, -84.

Tuesday Team News...
NEW: McDonnell, McManus, Sa'u, W Naiqama, Uate, Henry, Mullen (c), Fa'aoso, Hilder, Tuimavave, Houston, Costigan, Edwards. Bench: De Gois, Taufua, Ciraldo, Tolar, Kaufusi.
[Team Changes - Akuila Uate should backup from Origin duty, but Junior Sa'u is no guarantee to play after missing last week. Cameron Ciraldo also gets a run on the bench and Richie Fa'aoso comes back to start at prop. ]
PAR: Hayne, Burt, Walker, Loko, Atkins, McGuire, Robson, Mannah, Keating, MoiMoi, Hindmarsh (c), Lasalo, Smith. Bench: Mitchell, Shackleton, Allgood, Horo.
[Team Changes - Tim Mannah should backup while Shane Shackleton will play despite an eye injury. Matt Keating starts at hooker, Casey McGuire stays at five-eighth and Chris Walker stays at centre. Carl Webb misses out with the return of Mannah. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
Parramatta were as impressive last week as the Knights were unimpressive - such was the gap in quality in their respective performances. The Eels changed their attacking structure and personnel and crushed the Sharks, the Knights looked lost in attack v the Roosters. Eels for the 'upset'.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Knights could be without Jarrod Mullen who has back spasms and Akuila Uate picked up a quad cork in Origin1. Richie Fa'aoso missed last week with a boil on his chin and is still no sure thing to play. The Eels will be 1-17. Friday Tip: Kurt Gidley is attempting to convince Newcastle Coach Rick Stone he is able to play in order to prove his fitness for Origin2... but reports differ on his playing status.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
EELS To Win By 8 Points.

SATURDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

7:35pm (Local) 28 May @ Dairy Farmers Stadium, Townsville.

ROOSTERS 13th TEAM RECORD 3-7 for 8 Points, -53.

Tuesday Team News...
NQL: Bowen, Graham, Winterstein, Tonga/Tupou, Fai-Fai Loa, Thompson, Thurston (c), Scott (c), Payne, Tamou, Cooper, Hall, Johnson. Bench: Segeyaro, Bolton, T Sims, A Sims, L Ah Mau.
[Team Changes - The team was unchanged on Tuesday from their Round 10 game but Willie Tonga picked up a shoulder injury and is extremely unlikely to play. Will Tupou should come in for him in the centres and Leeson Ah Mau is expected to be 18th man. Johnathan Thurston and Matthew Scott are likely to backup from Origin1. ]
SYD: Minichiello, Naughton, J Carney, Kenny-Dowall, Leilua, T Carney, Pearce, Waerea-Hargreaves, Friend, Myles, Anasta (c), Nu'uausala, Guerra. Bench: Ryles, Masoe, Riddell, Symonds.
[Team Changes - Todd Carney goes back to five-eighth with Mitchell Pearce returning from Origin1 duty. Nate Myles is also listed to start at prop and Braith Anasta goes back to the second row. Aiden Guerra goes to lock. Tom Symonds returns from a finger injury on the bench. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
If Thurston and Scott backup for the Cowboys they'll be hard to beat at home given the rest of their squad is well rested coming off the bye. No Willie Tonga hurts but the Roosters need another good performance (this time on the road) for me to start believing they're a team worth tipping. Cowboys in a close one though.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Cowboys will play either Will Tupou or Gavin Cooper in the centres in place of Willie Tonga. The Roosters should be 1-17 with only Tom Symonds in any doubt.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
COWBOYS To Win By 2 Points.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOOTBALL
              V
2:05pm (Local) 29 May @ AAMI Park, Melbourne.
Coming In...
STORM 2nd TEAM RECORD 7-3 for 16 Points, +104.
SHARKS 15th TEAM RECORD 3-7 for 8 Points, -65.

Tuesday Team News...
MEL: Slater, Quinn, Nielsen, M Blair, Duffie, Widdop, Cronk, Bromwich, Smith (c), Norrie, A Blair, Proctor, Lowrie. Bench: Hinchcliffe, Manu, Woolnough, Lowe.
[Team Changes - All the rep stars are planning to backup from Origin1 and Anthony Quinn should return on the wing for youngster Dane Chisholm. ]
CRO: Gordon, M Wright, Pomeroy, Best, Mills, Graham, Porter, Snowden, Morris, Douglas, Bukuya, Tupou, Gallen (c). Bench: Cordoba, Tautai, Mannah, Flanagan, B Wright, Vave.
[Team Changes - The Sharks will have Paul Gallen backup but Kade Snowden's arm injury could leave him in some doubt. Expect Broderick Wright and John Mannah to drop off the bench come Sunday if they are fit. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
Melbourne playing on Sunday means they should have Cronk, Slater, Smith and Nielsen backing up and that gives them their big edge over the Sharks who were out-gunned against Parramatta on Monday. Paul Gallen returning helps Cronulla but it is hard to see them staying with the Storm in this one at AAMI Park.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Storm will have all four players from Origin1 backup. Kade Snowden's elbow injury could force him out with Siosaia Vave likely to play if he misses out.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
STORM To Win By 16 Points.

SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOOTBALL

TIGERS 7th TEAM RECORD 5-5 for 12 points, +23.

Tuesday Team News...
STI: Boyd, Morris, Gasnier, Cooper, Nightingale, Soward, Hornby (c), Hunt, Young, Weyman, Scott, Creagh, Prior. Bench: Green, Fien, Cuthbertson, Merrin, Stanley, Bosden, Rein.
[Team Changes - The Dragons have a lot of players backing up but right now all but perhaps Dean Young should play. Nathan Fien returns from a hammy injury on the bench and Wayne Bennett has named an extended bench to cover his Origin1 players. ]
WTG: McKinnon, Brown, Ayshford, Moltzen, Utai, Marshall, Lui, Gibbs, Farah (c), Galloway, Dwyer, Fulton, Heighington. Bench: Ryan, Fifita, Murdoch-Masila, Woods, A Schirnack.
[Team Changes - With no rep players the Tigers should be running out the team named on Tuesday. Bryce Gibbs starts for Andrew Fifita and Alan Schirnack or Beau Ryan will miss out. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
I've liked the Tigers for the last couple of seasons to match the Dragons in the regular season meetings but after getting burned I can't do it this week. Just haven't seen enough from the Tigers pack this year to make me feel confident they can hold the Dragons roll on and so I'll be tipping the hosts... but I think the Tigers will give it a real crack.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Dragons may only lose Dean Young from their eight Origin1 reps and the Tigers may not have Keith Galloway after his head knock v the Panthers. Friday Update: Keith Galloway and Dean Young will not play.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
DRAGONS To Win By 4 Points.

Tuesday Team News...
PEN: Coote, Simmons, Jennings, Tighe, Purtell, Burns, Walsh, McKendry, Kingston, Civoniceva (c), Waterhouse, Plum, Lewis. Bench: Iosefa, Smith, Grant, Bell, Weston, Earl, Y Gordon.
[Team Changes - The Panthers have Civoniceva and Jennings backing up from Origin1 while Luke Lewis and Travis Burns picked up injuries last week and are still in some doubt. Sandor Earl makes way for Jennings. ]
SOU: Wesser, Merritt, Farrell, Corrigan, Talanoa, Sutton, Sandow, Ross, Luke, McPherson, Taylor, Tyrrell, Crocker (c). Bench: Pettybourne, Clark, McQueen, Peats.
[Team Changes - The Bunnies named the same side that lost 12-6 to the Warriors on Sunday but there are doubts over Fetuli Talanoa, Jason Clark and Nathan Peats. If out, their replacements will be named on the weekend. ]
Wednesday Game Preview...
With the additions of Jennings and Civoniceva to the Penrith side that almost beat the Tigers last week (they weren't good but still they almost won), they should win this game up front against a depleted South Sydney team. Chris Sandow, Issac Luke, John Sutton and Dave Taylor are still quality players but the Bunnies are severely lacking depth. Can't pick Souths given the forward matchup and Jennings was superb in Origin1.
Tipping + Fantasy Late Mail...
SMH + Other Late Mail 27/05 - The Bunnies will likely lose Jason Clark and Fetuli Talanoa to injury and illness, while Nathan Peats hurt his back at training. James Roberts should replace Talanoa while Greg Inglis may be a late starter. Nigel Plum is out for the Panthers with a knee injury and Nathan Smith will start in the second row. Friday Update: Sandor Earl was named on the bench but will have double surgery over the next few weeks and is out for the season.
The NRL Tweet's Tip...
PANTHERS To Win By 4 Points.
