NRL Round 21 Tips from The Postman | 2017 Season

The Postman's Round 21 NRL Tips
2017 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - July 25, 2017

If the Dragons decided to play footy with a fullback who knew how to support the ball carrier once their grind first game started to fall apart - they might've been fun to watch for the past three months.

But the Matt Dufty era won't be a one game and done at least - with Euan Aitken injured for probably the rest of the season, Dufty might get his chance at fullback for the foreseeable future. Josh Dugan may just ask to transfer to the Sharks now...

Oh and the Dragons ripping of Manly to shreds was the only game we steered you wrong on last weekend - that's a 7/8 week and you should be thankful you went all favourites just like me.

Tips for Round 21 2017

Panthers over Bulldogs
Moylan is out again - so it gives the Dogs some hope... for the first half. Expect the Panthers to run away with this one in the back end of the match - Canterbury will produce a stunning attacking game at least once more this season... making that maybe 3 for the year. You can't trust them.

Sharks over Warriors
Cronulla need to win this to hold their Top 4 spot - so they will. Warriors would have to win every game for the rest of the year and rely on other results to make the Top 8 - they won't.

Broncos over Eels
Maybe... I just can't pick the Eels. They are a good footy team but limited in how adventurous their coach lets them be some times... then again that's Brisbane in a nutshell. I don't know... Broncos are higher on the table so they get the tick at this point... well only if Boyd plays.

Dragons over Knights
If the Dragons want to play attacking footy the Knights won't be able to stop them... then again I'm not convinced Paul McGregor lets them. But you have to pick Saints - they will only need 2 more wins after this game to secure their Top 8 spot if they beat Newcastle.

Raiders over Souths
Who really cares? If Canberra turn it on Souths can't go with them right... or maybe they can. Canberra go in without Rapana, Soliola and Papalii... so why am I picking them?

Roosters over Cowboys
Should be a good game of footy - Cowboys playing handy footy lately and the Roosters are down on some troops... home team please.

Storm over Sea Eagles
Manly finally got a wake up call back to reality last weekend from the Saints... and the Storm will be without Slater and maybe Smith as well... game is in Melbourne. Lean Storm.

Titans over Tigers
Jarryd Hayne v James Tedesco should be fun... neither team can make the Top 8 (well Titans can but need a miracle) so it might be a wide open game of footy. I can get behind that.

NRL Round 20 Tips from The Postman | 2017 Season

The Postman's Round 20 NRL Tips
2017 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - July 18, 2017

5 from 6 and only the Titans bashing the Sharks kept us from the mid-range perfecto. As a result of two good weeks back to back (shorter or not) the tipping success rate for the year is edging back to 65% - not quite the lofty 70.8% last year but we finished with a rush last year remember.

Back to the full rounds from here on and Thursday Night Football is back to stay. So don't get caught out missing an easy tip when it presents itself.

And hey - pretty early uploading of my tips all things considered!

Tips for Round 20 2017

Broncos over Bulldogs
Brisbane should put Canterbury out of their misery (finally) for 2017.

Roosters over Knights
Chooks should win this well even without a few key players. SKD up against his old team is an interesting subplot though.

Sharks over Rabbitohs
Cronulla bounce back in a big way - Souths to stay in it early but get run over late.

Panthers over Titans
Moylan plays and I'm more confident in this result. Titans lose this and they are pretty much cactus as Penrith are a team they need to rein in ahead of them for a Top 8 spot. Good matchup though - expect a quality game as the Titans are very capable on their day and are getting healthier.

Storm over Raiders
Canberra are at home and despite their tenuous playoff situation suggesting they could force an upset - you have to pick Melbourne in your tips. They lead the comp you know.

Cowboys over Warriors
Cowboys are playing very good and positive footy without JT and the Warriors begin life without SJ... Cowboys at home too.

Sea Eagles over Dragons
Manly are no certainties here despite the last two months of contrasting form. You pick Saints at home and I don't think you are insane... but Manly are the logical pick based on form. But I've got a feeling...

Eels over Tigers
Eels win this and they set up a situation where they need only 2 wins from their final 6 games to make the Top 8. As a result - I can't see them losing this if they are even remotely a fair dinkum footy team. You can't lose this game Parra - just like the one against Melbourne (sans Origin players) a few weeks back.

We've also got our reaction to Josh Dugan and Blake Ferguson's extra curricular activities before Origin 3 and post-Round 19 analysis including the race for St George-Illawarra's Top 8 spot.

The Postman's Round 19 NRL Tips

Tips for Round 19 2017

Panthers over Warriors
Penrith are you any good? We'll find out tomorrow night because the Warriors aren't very good but the loser here I think is almost definitely toast for 2017 (in a making the Finals sense mainly... Penrith could put a run together maybe in September but the Warriors certainly won't).

Raiders over Dragons
See above in regards to Penrith. Canberra's Finals chances are running on fumes right now and they were horrendous last time out against the Cowboys. Really should pick Saints in this one but Canberra tease that they could go on a run... it's just, they haven't since a 3 game winning streak in what feels like forever ago.

Broncos over Knights
Should be one way traffic in Newcastle.

Sharks over Titans
Titans got the Sharks in Cronulla earlier this year but I think the Sharks return the favour on the Gold Coast. Hayne was gutted after not being a factor in Origin 3 and has a big one here but the Sharks find a way I think - just too much depth up front for the Titans to hold.

Sea Eagles over Tigers
Manly win and probably win well.

Cowboys over Rabbitohs
Might change this one closer to kick-off but the Cowboys played really enterprising footy in beating Canberra and the Bunnies couldn't back up a great week of attacking footy with even a decent one against the under-manned Roosters. This is in Cairns so practically a home game for the Cowboys.

NRL Round 18 Tips from The Postman | 2017 Season

The Postman's Round 18 NRL Tips
2017 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - July 6, 2017

Well the wheels are falling off... the only solace is they are for everyone else as well with upsets running amok with tipping the last two rounds.

A shorter 4 game Round 18 lets us have a crack at a cheap 'perfecto' round but there is maybe only one game that looks a slam dunk and that involves the team who leads the comp with just 3 losses... and you aren't tipping them.

Tips for Round 18 2017

Roosters over Rabbitohs
After last week's 'new bunnies' you should pick Souths... then you realise you'd be picking Souths. Sure the Roosters are hit hard by Origin but I just have a feeling they get the job done against Souths who I simply don't trust to play last week's open footy this week.

Panthers over Sea Eagles
I never learn with Manly. I keep tipping against them and they win and tip them and they lose - and I got lucky last weekend tipping them to beat the Warriors given how that game started... Penrith aren't hurt by Origin here and Manly will be without Jake Trbojevic - it's a big loss for them and Penrith are at home.

Eels over Storm
Parramatta simply have to take full advantage and beat a Melbourne team without Smith, Cronk, Slater, Chambers, Munster and Glasby. No ifs or buts - they have to win this game as it puts them into pole position for a spot in the 8 with the chasing pack leaving themselves a lot of work to get back in touch let alone pass the Eels if they win this game. PS. You aren't dumb to pick Melbourne either.

Bulldogs over Knights
I don't want to pick either team but the Knights were horrendous at home v the team coming 16th so I won't pick them. Dogs weren't much better v Parra and only got back into the game because Parra stopped playing footy in the 2nd Half. Dogs to win at Belmore I guess...
