Round 8 Tips and Late Mail

2014 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - April 24, 2014

Round 8 is here and finally, www.wdnicolson.com tipped at the astronomical rate of 5 from 8 last week!

Yep, one game over .500!!!

Stop it... things are getting out of hand.

Let's see if we can go one better in Round 8 - and we'll know how realistic that is after Friday's slate of 3 games on ANZAC Day.

The Postman's Late Mail is taking a week off I'm afraid, he'll be back for Round 9.

Remember our Game Previews are now purely the essentials in 2014 - I'll try to write very little fluff and you'll simply (entertainingly) get my read on each game and of course the Late Mail.

The 'Special Fried Rice' picks have returned but given it is me v me, every week - I'll just be listing my 'SFR' of the week with the FootyTab Starts as the variation aspect to keep things interesting vs just saying 'this team will win this week - guaranteed'. Though at 3 from 7... the other me is still kicking my butt.

HEADS UP: We will have a new episode of NOT The Footy Show - sometime in the next fortnight. So keep an eye on your iTunes Podcast folders for Episode 151 in the near future.

Round 7 Tipping was goodish with 5/8 (started 4 from 5!) - so Let's get to the Tips!
ROUND 8 TIPS and LATE MAIL
All tips are subject to last minute changes, Game Odds/FootyTab are from Wednesday night and do not update thereafter. Times listed are stadium location LOCAL time.

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Roosters have their front row rotation back in sync and have more points in them... that said - Dragons might stick in this game longer than they did last year. Roosters by 4 points.

How do you schedule Easter?

2014 National Rugby League Premiership

By W D Nicolson - April 17, 2014

The below is my best attempt to try and give fans who have up to 4 days off over Easter every chance to attend a game or games in Round 7.

While I do understand TV decides when games are played, I fear that not enough thought went into the allocation of this weekend's matches and a lot of fans are being forced to choose which game they go to as opposed to having options of games to go to.
Here is the current Round 7 schedule over Easter.

Friday 4pm - Rabbitohs v Bulldogs at ANZ
Friday 8pm - Knights v Broncos at Newcastle
Friday 8pm - Sea Eagles v Cowboys at Central Coast
Saturday 5:30pm - Dragons v Warriors at Kogarah
Saturday 7:30pm - Sharks v Roosters at Cronulla
Sunday 3pm - Raiders v Storm at Canberra
Monday 4pm - Eels v Tigers at ANZ
Monday 7pm - Panthers v Titans at Penrith

What I want to see is an attempt to shift how people view attending the football - and the Easter weekend is the perfect opportunity to say to fans of ALL teams (well those who have a game nearby) - get out and watch some footy this weekend - even if your team isn't playing.

Granted pricing is a massive element in winning this battle - and credit to the NRL for showing some initiative and offering reduced price packages this weekend - but getting the scheduling as close to 'right as possible' is a huge part of the battle plan.

Here's my basic rule - make multiple games attendable and don't force local fan bases to choose between two games on the same day. Because if given the choice of watching one at the ground and missing the other stuck in traffic coming home/going to from the game - they will stay at home and watch both on TV.

Which in a normal round is par for the course, but Easter = people have time off so let's seriously encourage them to get to the footy and not stay at home and watch on TV.

Round 7 Tips and Late Mail

2014 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - April 16, 2014

Round 7 has arrived and it is time to do the dance of joy... www.wdnicolson.com tipped at .500 LAST WEEKEND!!!!

As a result - gradually - we are getting closer to being .500 on the season and it is about time!

The Postman's Late Mail is added below for all you Fantasy Footy freaks...

Remember our Game Previews are now purely the essentials in 2014 - I'll try to write very little fluff and you'll simply (entertainingly) get my read on each game and of course the Late Mail.

Round 6 Tipping was the first sign we are getting back to respectability at 4/8 (started 1 from 5!) and if we back it up this weekend - this tipping ship is back baby! Let's get to the Tips!
ROUND 7 TIPS and LATE MAIL
All tips are subject to last minute changes, Game Odds/FootyTab are from Wednesday night and do not update thereafter. Times listed are stadium location LOCAL time.
Friday at ANZ 4:00pm
Rabbitohs $1.83 v $2.00 Bulldogs
FOOTYTABCBY +3.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
No George Burgess or Te'o... how are the Bunnies favourites - even with Inglis? The starting packs and benches completely favour the Bulldogs - and unless the Dogs play this game in completely the wrong way - they should win. Have gone Dogs by 4 out of pure respect for the chance the Inglis-Reynolds-Sutton combo gets some room to move... but if Dogs play this up the middle they win. Bulldogs by 4 points.

LATEST OF LATE MAIL from The Postman:
HOME - The Bunnies may not have Auva'a due to a leg injury suffered late against the Panthers so Reddy, Johnston or Champion would replace him if he misses.
AWAY - The Dogs may bring Sam Kasiano into the squad ahead of O'Hanlon despite the bigger unit not being named.
