NRL Round 7 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 7, 2020.
Published June 25, 2020

6/8 and the tipping percentage climbs ever so slightly - that's 23/32 since the NRL resumed and you'll take that won't you?

Swung and missed on Penrith (was a week early tipping them to peak) and Canberra were woeful (Manly were superb).

Round 6 Results:
Knights 27 Broncos 6 Correct
Rabbitohs 40 Warriors 12
Correct
Panthers 21 Storm 14 -
Incorrect
Dragons 20 Titans 8 Correct
Tigers 36 Cowboys 20
 Correct
Roosters 24 Eels 10
 Correct
Sea Eagles 14 Raiders 6
Incorrect
Sharks 20 Bulldogs 18
 Correct

You can get NOT The Footy Show's Round 7 Tips in Video form below - the video will start at the tips themselves.

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.
Round 7 Tips:
Thursday
Panthers over Rabbitohs
Souths have beaten up two poor teams back to back, whereas Penrith should have beaten Parra and then were excellent to beat Melbourne. Penrith it is.

Friday

Storm over Warriors
The Warriors sacked Stephen Kearney but the Storm have played ordinary footy for the most part since the resumption - expecting Craig Bellamy to demand a bounce back here. Storm.
Roosters over Dragons
The Saints shouldn't get within 10 let alone 30 of the Chooks at the moment but if James Tedesco doesn't play... Easts by 28.

Saturday

Knights over Cowboys
Jason Taumalolo can't do it all... and he'll have to for North Queensland to put up a fight against a well drilled and skilled in key areas Newcastle Knights team. Knights.
Broncos over Titans
Actually really want to tip the Titans as they may play the freer of the football with no pressure on them and a mountain of it on Supercoach Seibold. Brisbane get the tip but this is not a slam dunk.
Eels over Raiders
You just can't pick Canberra after last week's debacle v Manly. Parra fell short v Easts but played the far better footy. Tip Canberra if you want but it's hopeful. Eels.

Sunday
Sea Eagles over Sharks
Manly are being hammered by injuries (Tommy Trbojevic and Dylan Walker join the list) but keep fronting up... the same can't be said about Cronulla so far this year. So go with Manly, but if you want an outsider this weekend take the Sharks.
Tigers over Bulldogs
Was the 1st Half last week a mirage from the Wests Tigers? You know what you'll get from Canterbury - effort without much result on the scoreboard. Kieran Foran is playing great footy but you should pick the Tigers.

2020 Tipping Record: 31/48 @ 64.6%
Round 01: 4/8
Round 02: 4/8
Round 03: 7/8
Round 04: 5/8
Round 05: 5/8
Round 06: 6/8

Join Robb Cox and Warrick Nicolson for our weekly NRL Podcast featuring Wayne Bennett's press conference for the ages, Brisbane's promised 2nd team and our Round 7 Tips.

We aren't pleased with how the Rugby League media is linking every good old coach to every NRL head coaching job (open or not) so we get stuck in and we also talk a realistic time frame for Brisbane's 2nd Team that Peter V'landys has declared will happen... eventually.

Plus Coxsmith makes us talk Origin at the end of the show and we clean out the NTFS mailbag.

All this and a little bit more on Episode 217 of NOT The Footy Show.

NRL Round 6 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 6, 2020.
Published June 17, 2020

Well 5/8 again... but not 5/5 then 0/3 at least. You would take 5/8 every week but you don't have to like it.

Round 5 Results:
Sea Eagles 20 Broncos 18 Correct
Warriors 37 Cowboys 26
Incorrect
Eels 16 Panthers 10 -
Incorrect
Rabbitohs 32 Titans 12 Correct
Storm 26 Knights 12
 Correct
Raiders 14 Tigers 6
 Correct
Dragons 30 Sharks 16
Incorrect
Roosters 42 Bulldogs 6
 Correct

That keeps the tipping percentage at 62.5% for the season (25/40) with time running out to stay within striking distance of the tipping holy grail of 70% for the season.

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.
Round 6 Tips:
Thursday
Knights over Broncos
Form says Newcastle... so stick with the Knights.

Friday

Rabbitohs over Warriors
The Bunnies beat up ordinary teams then struggle against the better ones - the Warriors are not one of the better ones.
Storm over Panthers
Should've stuck with the favoured Eels last week... went Penrith and got burnt. Just like they did blowing a 10-0 lead. As a result the tip is Melbourne... but feel free to back the Mountain Men if you dare.

Saturday

Dragons over Titans
St George Illawarra certainly aren't 'back' but the Titans are below average and Saints can be average to half decent on their day.
Tigers over Cowboys
The Tigers played boring footy and lost... the Cowboys played bad footy and let in almost 40 to lost to the offensively-challenged Warriors. Go Tigers.
Roosters over Eels
If you've watched Easts since the resumption there's no doubt which team is playing the better footy over this time. And Parra are playing very well but the Chooks are better than everyone by a mile.

Sunday
Raiders over Sea Eagles
Manly are down on a few key troops and Canberra are only missing one player from their best team (John Bateman). Go the Raiders here but overly respect Manly if you must.
Sharks over Bulldogs
Simply have no preference... they were both bad last week - Cronulla more so than Canterbury but you will go with the Sharks eventually so stop pretending you'll pick the Bulldogs already.

2020 Tipping Record: 25/40 @ 62.5%
Round 01: 4/8
Round 02: 4/8
Round 03: 7/8
Round 04: 5/8

NRL Round 5 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 5, 2020.
Published June 10, 2020

Well Round 4 started beautifully... coasting to 5 correct tips from 5 games... then the Knights, Titans and Bulldogs crushed the dreams of el perfecto.

To end up with 5/8 in Round 5 wasn't horrible on the surface but when you start 5/5 all you can think about is how useless the teams that let you down are for the next week.

Round 4 Results:
Roosters 59 Broncos 0 Correct
Panthers 26 Warriors 0
Correct
Storm 22 Rabbitohs 8
 Correct
Eels 19 Sea Eagles 16 Correct
Sharks 26 Cowboys 16
 Correct
Knights 34 Raiders 18
 - Incorrect
Titans 28 Tigers 23
 Incorrect
Bulldogs 22 Dragons 2
 Incorrect

That brings keep the tipping percentage at 62.5% for the season (20/32) with much work to do.

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.
Round 5 Tips:
Thursday
Sea Eagles over Broncos
Manly should win this... not in a canter but you just can't tip Brisbane after their effort last week against the Chooks - no matter how good Easts were - you have to tip Manly and you can't tip the Broncos.

Friday

Cowboys over Warriors
This tip rests solely on Jason Taumalolo's fitness at game time. If he plays we stick with the Cowboys on the road, if he doesn't then the Warriors will be getting tipped... as crazy as that sounds. So watch this space.
Panthers over Eels
Not in love with Parra despite their 4-0 start... and Penrith should have the same record if not for letting the Knights steal a point in Round 3. Nathan Cleary back is big and the Penrith forward pack will more than match Parra's group. Looking forward to the #9 matchup - gut feel is Koroisau might take advantage of the Eels around the middle. Tip Penrith at the moment.

Saturday

Rabbitohs over Titans
South Sydney get Cody Walker back and although the Titans broke through for their first win in 12 months last week - expecting Souths to put on a bit of a clinic at Bankwest.
Storm over Knights
Very very nervous picking Melbourne given how well Newcastle went in disposing of Canberra... another tip that might get reversed closer to kick-off... Melbourne aren't going that well and Souths didn't test their defence like Canberra did the week before... Newcastle have some points in them but how they defend - can they back it up three straight weeks? - decides this game. Storm on respect alone at this stage.
Raiders over Tigers
Can't understand the Benji Marshall disposal by Michael Maguire... Josh Reynolds offers something different but not something better. Canberra to win but this could be a seesawing contest as the Raiders weren't much good at all last week... Green Machine it is.

Sunday
Roosters over Bulldogs
If Easts have the same hunger as the past fortnight they could put on another 40+ margin here... Canterbury were better than Saints last week but that's not saying much, and the Chooks are better than everyone. Chooky Chooky Chooky Chook.
Sharks over Dragons
The Dragons will wake up at some point... but Mary McGregor needs it to be on the next two consecutive weekends to save his job (they have the Titans in Round 6 then Easts and Canberra back to back). Cronulla did the job in Townsville but weren't overly impressive - but you are extremely brave if you go against them here given the way Saints are playing right now.

2020 Tipping Record: 20/32 @ 62.5%
Round 01: 4/8
Round 02: 4/8
Round 03: 7/8

NRL Round 4 in Review with Matthew Duncan returning to co-host alongside Robb Cox and Warrick Nicolson.

Plenty to discuss out of a big week of Rugba League - not least the survival of Dean Pay and Mary McGregor. Where are the Broncos right now under Supercoach Seibold (as Easts flex their premiership muscle) and Tom Trbojevic's refreshing honesty on that forward pass call.

Plus we go down the Universal Pro League rabbit hole as the NTFS mailbag gets cleaned out.

NRL Round 4 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 4, 2020.
Published June 04, 2020

Watch out The Postman is back baby!

7/8 in Round 4 (well technically 6.5 under the old tipping points system given there was a draw) and the tipping season is back on track for 2020.

Round 3 Results:
Eels 34 Broncos 6 Correct
Cowboys 36 Titans 6
Correct
Roosters 28 Rabbitohs 12
 Correct
Warriors 18 Dragons 0 - Incorrect
Tigers 28 Sharks 16
 Correct
Raiders 22 Storm 6
 Correct
Panthers 14 Knights 14 - Draw (
Correct Tip given)
Sea Eagles 32 Bulldogs 6
 Correct

That brings him to 15/24 for the season at 62.5% - getting closer to respectability after starting 8/16.

This week The Postman revealed his Tips on NOT The Footy Show Episode 214 but he's regurgitated them below.

To the tips in text form!

Round 4 Tips:
Thursday
Roosters over Broncos
Easts looked back in business last week as they handled the Bunnies, whilst Brisbane couldn't find a counter-punch for Parra's possession dominance. Roosters by quite a few by full time.

Friday

Panthers over Warriors
Penrith should have taken two competition points in Round 3 but were probably lucky to get one given the roll of the dice that golden point is... but you'd expect them to play more footy this week - against a team in the Warriors who won their first game of the season over Saints. Don't read too much into the value of completions here... just pick Penrith and be rewarded.
Storm over Rabbitohs
South Sydney need to rebound here - especially Adam Reynolds - after being overwhelmed by the Chooks, whilst the Storm had enough quality ball to beat 13 other teams in the NRL last week but got done by Canberra. Melbourne should bounce back but the Bunnies aren't going to be easy-beats here.

Saturday

Eels over Sea Eagles
Want to pick Manly... because the Eels aren't the bees knees yet despite their 3-0 record. May well change the pick here come Saturday arvo and Manly look pretty fit. Parra still don't have Nathan Brown and that's a loss... really tough to stick with Parra based on the above but as of right now - the Eels get the penciled in pick.
Sharks over Cowboys
No Jason Taumalolo is big... yeah it's big. No Michael Morgan wasn't felt against the inferior Titans but it will be against a Cronulla team that will be fired up after falling away badly in the second half last week. Shaun Johnson to have a big game if the Cronulla pack can handle McGuire and McLean. Sharkies is the tip despite being winless so far.

Sunday

Raiders over Knights
Canberra were really good beating Melbourne. The Knights were really gutsy earning a point v Penrith. Newcastle will need every minute between games to recover... but Canberra are a better side even with Ponga back, go the Raiders here.
Tigers over Titans
The Tigers want to play Finals this year - so if they can't dispatch the Titans on Sunday night they don't deserve to finish any higher than 9th... again.

Monday
Dragons over Bulldogs
Tossed the coin 50 times and it came up with the Dragons 26 times. What a contest!

2020 Tipping Record: 15/24 @ 62.5%
Round 01: 4/8
Round 02: 4/8

Initial evaluation of the NRL's Six Again rule after Round 3

Evaluation of the NRL's Six Again Rule
Published June 3, 2020

The NRL's brave new world of one referee plus a revolutionary rule change kicked into gear in Round 3 of the 2020 NRL Premiership, and one week in - it looks good.

On Episode 213 of NOT The Footy Show's NRL Podcast - Robb Cox and Warrick Nicolson evaluated how the new Six Again rule in particular performed across the eight games.

Our evaluation video is 11 minutes long and follows our analysis of the rule before a game was played.

So as you can see above - as of right now - we are fans.

But a one week sample size isn't enough to categorically declare it the most brilliant innovation since the removal of corner posts being out of bounds, and collectively the media and coaches haven't had a chance to really seize on any 'perceived mistakes' yet.

What did you make of it?

Feel free to comment below or on the Youtube video.
