NRL Round 12 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 122020.
Published July 29, 2020

Back to 6/8 territory and with a little bit of faith in the fact the Dragons aren't very good it should have been 7/8. Sure Cronulla have been good and terrible this season and a video ref call helped their cause big time but if the Saints had any real gumption about them - they should still have won that match.

Canterbury upsetting Newcastle was hard to tip if you didn't look at the form line between the two teams the last few years... and the Dogs made it EIGHT wins from the last nine games v the Knights since 2014.

Round 11 Results:
Eels 26 Tigers 16 Correct
Sea Eagles 24 Cowboys 12

NOT The Footy Show did indeed return this week with Matthew Duncan joining Warrick Nicolson for Episode 220.

Our Round 12 tips start from 31:23 or just watch below.

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.

Round 12 Tips:
Thursday
Rabbitohs over Dragons
Souths haven't won since Round 9 but haven't been terrible in losses to Newcastle and Canberra. Saints were real good against Manly and then so-so v Canterbury before crashing back to earth when the ho-hum Sharks got the biscuits at Kogarah. Latrell Mitchell back for Souths is enough to lean towards the Rabbitohs.

Friday

Tigers over Warriors
Danger game if the Tigers aren't careful - the Warriors put it to Easts last week and have a new influx of players who will add something. But Wests really need to win this game and I expect them to comfortably - if they don't then Michael Maguire might drop everyone not named Harry Grant and Alex Twal.
Sharks over Broncos
Cringe-worthy matchup for Friday Night Footy... Brisbane are busted mentally and physically and the Sharks haven't played good footy against anyone good... fortunately for the Sharks the Broncos aren't good. Cronulla if Shaun Johnson continues to perform at the level he is showing of late.

Saturday

Roosters over Titans
Penrith didn't put the Gold Coast away last week and should have done it in the first half - the Roosters won't make that mistake and should win this by 30+.
Raiders over Cowboys
Canberra are on the road and do get three big inclusions with John Bateman, Curtis Scott and Corey Harawira-Naera coming into the squad but CNK is out and Rapana at fullback is questionable given he's not a passer of the ball (but then again CNK isn't really either). Danger game for the Raiders who should win this because the Cowboys are soft and just lost Josh McGuire for his continued recklessness he tries to disguise as 'hardness'. Raiders 10+.
Sea Eagles over Panthers
The upset of the Round as tipped on NOT The Footy Show. Manly are only missing Tommy Trbojevic from their best 17 if Dylan Walker gets up for this match and Penrith have coasted the last couple of weeks against poor opposition - really don't think the Panthers are playing the kind of footy that will trouble Manly's defence (that has switched on again after the Dragons debacle) and it's Manly for me at Brookie.

Sunday
Eels over Bulldogs
Parra should win and win well. The Dogs will have a go but Parra only have to shut down Foran and they'll win easily.
Storm over Knights
Melbourne by 20. The Knights resolve looked like it broke last week and the Storm are red hot.

Join Matthew Duncan and Warrick Nicolson for the return of our weekly NRL Podcast as we deep dive into the significance of David Fifita signing a 3 year deal with the Gold Coast Titans.

We look into the history of the Gold Coast franchise and the various big recruitment drives that netted only one Preliminary Final appearance since 1988.

We also look at the Joseph Suaalii debate around the minimum age to debut and why SBW signing with the Roosters shouldn't be an issue with footy fans but rather the fact the NRL can't be transparent about how the salary cap and third party system works hand in hand should be.

Plus our Round 12 Tips as we preview the week ahead.

All this and a little bit more on Episode 220 of NOT The Footy Show.

Enjoy.

NRL Round 11 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 112020.
Published July 23, 2020

Well kids - listen to thyself.

When news came through on Friday that Ryan Matterson and Blake Ferguson would miss for Parra v Manly - I wrote the below on the Round 10 tips... and then didn't change my tip.
"UPDATE FRIDAY ARVO - Matterson and Ferguson have withdrawn for Parra apparently... I think this now smells like a classic Dessie/Manly/Brookie ambush. Seriously considering taking the Sea Eagles now."
GOOSE.

Also showed too much faith in the Bunnies despite using the words 'Souths... maybe. Check back Saturday to see if I've changed my mind again.' so be smarter than me and follow the gut. I had Newcastle all week before I put the post up.

GOOSE times two.

But despite missing Canberra's massive upset of Easts on Thursday - your local Postman still ended up with 5/8 in Round 10 and you really can't complain with 62.5% every other week surely?

Round 10 Results:
Raiders 24 Roosters 20 Incorrect
Storm 42 Titans 6
Correct
Tigers 48 Broncos 0 -
Correct
Dragons 28 Bulldogs 22 Correct
Knights 20 Rabbitohs 18
 Incorrect
Sea Eagles 22 Eels 18
 Incorrect
Sharks 46 Warriors 10
Correct
Panthers 22 Cowboys 10
 Correct

Unfortunately NOT The Footy Show is off for a second straight week - for a few reasons but we will be back - hopefully you'll hear from Coxsmith and Waz ahead of Round 12.
Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.

Round 11 Tips:
Thursday
Eels over Tigers
Parramatta were bad last week and still almost won... the Tigers absolutely belted Brisbane but they are horrendous if you weren't aware. Parra get three key players back in Moses, Matterson and Ferguson and even though I think the Tigers will push them - you pick Parra here.

Friday

Sea Eagles over Cowboys
New coach feels might actually be a factor here for North Queensland - as they desperately needed a new message (if you've seen any of Paul Green's pressers this season you'll know what I'm talking about) but Manly just rolled the top of the table Eels... you know - the gut is thinking Cowboys but do you want to pick them and feel that way come Friday 8pm? Yeah me neither. Manly.
Storm over Broncos
Melbourne by as many as you wish to predict. Brisbane might stand up early but but early that may only be the first set after the kickoff. If Melbourne win by 40+ then I don't see Supercoach Seibold having a job next week.

Saturday

Roosters over Warriors
Sydney Roosters thanks. Next.
Dragons over Sharks
Can't believe I'm tipping the Dragons for a third straight week... but Cronulla have looked incredibly average against goodish teams and only beaten up bad sides (a theme for the middle third of the comp) and I don't mind what I've seen from the Saints of late. Dragons.
Raiders over Rabbitohs
Canberra should back up last week's superb effort to beat the defending premiers and account for a South Sydney team that is trying hard but lacking polish... they aren't going to challenge for the title in 2020 but Latrell Mitchell is missed on the end of their backline atm. Damien Cook is Canberra's biggest threat. Go Canberra but be wary of the Bunnies - Wayne Bennett will have continually reminded them of their last trip to Canberra and what a loss there meant... beware the Bunnies.

Sunday
Knights over Bulldogs
The health of Kieran Foran dictates how much of a chance Canterbury are in upsetting Newcastle. That doesn't mean they'll win but if Foz is healthy enough then they can push Newcastle for 60 mins but expect the Knights to run away with this one in the final 20.
Panthers over Titans
Penrith lost their hooker and fullback but are top of the table and they shouldn't lose here... still, got a feeling it won't be smooth sailing. Take Penrith.

NRL Round 10 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 102020.
Published July 15, 2020

First up - why did any of you (and I) take the Raiders against the in-form Storm. That tip sucked and my apologies.

Mind you some decisions didn't help but tips don't care about what ifs or could've beens... they care about the final score.

So 5/8 in Round 9 - missed Canberra, Warriors and Bulldogs.

Canterbury was the baddest tip of them all... yikes.

But we did tip you St George-Illawarra over Manly and split Souths-Tigers correctly. That's not awful.

Round 9 Results:
Roosters 42 Cowboys 16 Correct
Titans 16 Warriors 12
Incorrect
Rabbitohs 18 Tigers 10 -
Correct
Panthers 56 Sharks 24 Correct
Broncos 26 Bulldogs 8
 Incorrect
Storm 20 Raiders 14
 Incorrect
Eels 10 Knights 4
Correct
Dragons 34 Sea Eagles 4
 Correct

Unfortunately no NOT The Footy Show this week - Coxsmith and Waz will return after Round 10.

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.

Round 10 Tips:
Thursday
Roosters over Raiders
Canberra will have a crack but with Josh Hodgson out for the year and their pack's depth in shambles - the Roosters will win and probably by the full time siren - have won well.

Friday

Storm over Titans
Cameron Munster is back and the Storm should put 20+ points between themselves and the Titans (who aren't going that bad) in this one. Melbourne thanks.
Tigers over Broncos
The Broncos are back on prime time and they come up against a beatable Tigers team that has dropped Luke Brooks to the bench... but Benji Marshall starts and their pack can hold Brisbane's forwards here and that'll be the difference. Tigers by 6.

Saturday

Dragons over Bulldogs
A month or so back Saints fell over again and got well beaten by Canterbury... and even though the Dragons crushed Manly last week - Canterbury are out from under the underwhelming attack only as a last resort Dean Pay approach and might give the Saints a scare here... but go with St George-Illawarra.
Rabbitohs over Knights
No Latrell Mitchell and the Knights do get some troops back... but lost Daniel Saifiti. Have swayed back and forth with the tip all week but Alex Johnston will go fine at fullback and the Saifiti loss is significant given how Newcastle use their starting front rowers. Souths... maybe. Check back Saturday to see if I've changed my mind again.
Eels over Sea Eagles
Still no Mitchell Moses for Parra but you will be game indeed taking Manly - even at Brookie. Manly have DCE in attack and a decent forward pack at the moment due to injuries and Parra haven't really missed a step without Moses. So take Parra but if you want an upset - don't rule out Manly as an option.
UPDATE FRIDAY ARVO - Matterson and Ferguson have withdrawn for Parra apparently... I think this now smells like a classic Dessie/Manly/Brookie ambush. Seriously considering taking the Sea Eagles now.

Sunday
Sharks over Warriors
The Warriors burned me last week so they can't be tipped... didn't pick Cronulla v Penrith so the Sharks get another chance to beat a badder team than them.
Panthers over Cowboys
Penrith Penrith Penrith.

NRL Round 9 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 92020.
Published July 8, 2020

6/8 in Round 8 - missing on the Chooks (what a game that was - Melbourne played great but were still fortunate to win really) and the Broncos - who continue to disappoint everyone... well maybe not everyone but tipping wise they've dropped two gimmies in a row.

For the season the tipping rate is up to 65% - nothing to sneeze at kiddies.

Round 8 Results:
Storm 27 Roosters 25 Incorrect
Raiders 22 Dragons 16
Correct
Eels 42 Cowboys 4 -
Correct
Sharks 40 Titans 10 Correct
Warriors 26 Broncos 16
 Incorrect
Panthers 19 Tigers 12
 Correct
Knights 14 Sea Eagles 12
Correct
Rabbitohs 26 Bulldogs 10
 Correct

Watch NOT The Footy Show on Youtube or listen to the Podcast via iTunes and Spotify.
Round 9 Tips:
Thursday
Roosters over Cowboys
The Cowboys might be in this from about the kickoff til the end of the first set of six... even with no Tupou or Cordner the Chooks will put up a score in Townsville.

Friday

Warriors over Titans
The Titans have cobbled together a three-quarter line for this one and the Warriors not only get RTS back but they also get him back after a stirring victory. Warriors have disappointed plenty of tipsters over the years but they are in excellent company with the Titans here so RTS actually playing decides this one. Warriors.
Rabbitohs over Tigers
Souths beat up the ordinary and bad teams - you've heard that before here, and the Tigers are just on the cusp of not being an ordinary team... in fact they win this week and they might get classified as a kind of good one. But that's where Souths are already - so pick the Bunnies on the back of Reynolds and Walker and their forwards taking on and beating a Twal-less pack.

Saturday

Panthers over Sharks
Cronulla have put two scores of significance back to back to quietly slip into the Top 8 and get a Penrith team that has been 'up' for a month for 3 wins and a loss. Beware the let down Penrith fans... but at the moment back your boys.
Bulldogs over Broncos
Sick and tired of thinking the Broncos are better than really bad footy teams... then they get the Bulldogs after blowing games against the Titans and Warriors. Just cannot pick Brisbane based on how they are going right now. Canterbury have played ok but are finding scoring points extremely difficult but they do get the Broncos this week. The Foran factor wins this for the Dogs.
Raiders over Storm
Melbourne found a way to beat Easts in a great game of footy last week, whilst Canberra should've put a score on the Saints but in the end only just held on. If Munster gets drawn into the lineup this tip changes, but right now Canberra will be sneaky confident getting the Storm in Canberra - as they've beaten Melbourne three times in a row. Go Canberra.

Sunday
Eels over Knights
Newcastle were great with 15 fit players last week but it'll take its toll again and Parramatta coasted to victory last Friday and get two extra days to rest up. The Knights are showing they are up for the fight this year but Parra - even without Moses - will keep hold of top spot with a win in Newcastle.
Dragons over Sea Eagles
Cannot believe the words that were typed above... come back Sunday to see if they haven't changed. Manly are losing players left and right and the Saints look healthy... this tip already hurts to pencil in let alone commit to.

NRL Round 8 Tips from The Postman | 2020 Season

The Postman's Tips for Round 82020.
Published July 1, 2020

5/8 and that felt very meh...

Cronulla winning was obviously a direct result of this line in the tips last week - ie. they liked themselves as the outsider...

'So go with Manly, but if you want an outsider this weekend take the Sharks' and didn't they dust Manly easily.

Whereas Brisbane just plain suck and the Cowboys stood up big time to knock off the very poor Knights.

Round 7 Results:
Panthers 20 Rabbitohs 12 Correct
Storm 50 Warriors 6
Correct
Roosters 26 Dragons 12 -
Correct
Cowboys 32 Knights 20 Incorrect
Titans 30 Broncos 12

Round 8 Tips:
Thursday
Roosters over Storm
Roosters lose Radley, Verrills and Liu to injury for this one, whereas the Storm lose Munster. Even if Munster was playing you'd still pick the Chooks with Tedesco returning. So pick Easts.

Friday

Raiders over Dragons
Surely Canberra have something for their home fans this week? The Saints actually played their best footy of the year losing to Easts - so don't discount them here. But surely Canberra turn up at home.
Eels over Cowboys
Parra thanks - even with no Mitchell Moses, the Cowboys need to win back to back to make people sit up and take notice. Parra.

Saturday

Sharks over Titans
The Titans have won two of three!! The Sharks however just dismantled Manly... and the Gold Coast only beat Brisbane... still you'd be feeling ok with yourself if you did take the Titans here... but Cronulla gets the tip here.
Broncos over Warriors
RTS being out decides it... but picking Brisbane after having them burn you last week is not easy... Broncos maybe?
Panthers over Tigers
Good clash but Penrith's form line is far superior over the last 3 weeks - Penrith lost to Parra (after leading most of the game) then beat Melbourne and Souths. The Tigers got beaten by the struggling Raiders, then beat North Queensland and Canterbury in blowouts - Penrith it is.

Sunday
Knights over Sea Eagles
Newcastle will bounce back from their shocker in Townsville but Manly will also rebound after getting towelled up by Cronulla. No Tommy Trbojevic and the presence of Pearce and Ponga is why it is Newcastle for the win here.
Rabbitohs over Bulldogs
Souths by plenty - they rarely miss opportunities to beat bad teams by a fair margin.
