Round 17 NRL Tips
National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - June 30, 2016

The NRL Tweet's Tips for Round 17 2016
Bulldogs over Roosters
Broncos over Storm
Warriors over Titans
Panthers over Tigers
Sharks over Eels
Raiders over Knights
Cowboys over Souths

Manly over Dragons

Last Week: 6/7
The Broncos cost us - AGAIN! What really is annoying is that some tipping comps rewarded 7 from 7 with 2 bonus points... seriously it should only be any extra if you get 8 from 8... so that's the challenge this week!

Round 17 Tipping Skinny: Good luck - we are closing in on a 70% success rate somehow! Chooks-Dogs is a worry but when it comes to tipping you've got to stick with the team that's had the better season (by a long way)... Broncos-Storm is a coin-flip as is Warriors-Titans and Manly-Dragons. The rest 'should' win.

2016 SEASON TIPS:

Round 16 NRL Tips
National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - June 23, 2016

The NRL Tweet's Tips for Round 16 2016
Panthers over Souths
Dragons over Knights
Sharks over Warriors
Broncos over Bulldogs
Raiders over Titans
Storm over Tigers
Cowboys over Manly

Last Week: 4/4
Way too short a round to claim anything 'perfect' and QLD was the tip for #Origin 2 in case you were deluded enough to pick NSW. Only the Titans did it the easy way from the four games in Round 15.

Round 16 Tipping Skinny: Back to the 7 games this week with Eels and Roosters having the bye. We're now batting at 68.5% for the year so the pressure is starting to tell on anyone who hasn't been taking our picks! Congrats if you've stuck solid - we promised nothing so we will all take 68.5% with both hands. A couple up for grabs in Round 16 - Panthers-Bunnies, Knights-Dragon, Dogs-Broncos and Titans-Raiders - only 'upset' I've gone is Raiders but tread carefully with these games. Cowboys, Storm and Sharks should win.

Round 15 NRL Tips
National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - June 16, 2016

The NRL Tweet's Tips for Round 15 2016
Eels over Souths
Dragons over Storm
Warriors over Roosters
Titans over Manly

Last Week: 5/8
We'll take 5 out of 8 to stay above 67% for the year... Cowboys didn't finish the job on Monday, but the Bunnies and Titans were just outplayed.

Round 15 Tipping Skinny: Only the 4 games... stick with the favourites... but who the favourite on Friday night is anyone's guess. Dragons just need to score 3 tries to win their game... but are you confident that they can against the Storm? Warriors-Roosters - go the home team, ditto for Titans over Manly.

Why didn't NSW pick Tedesco and Moylan for #Origin 2? | #NRL #uptheblues

Why not both?
National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - June 14, 2016

So Laurie Daley hasn't been able to find a spot for James Tedesco in his NSW team for Origin 2 next Wednesday... so I'm a little disappointed that Tedesco on the wing with Matt Moylan at fullback didn't happen.

Look at QLD over the years... they find room for greatness - Slater on the wing, Inglis in the centres, Boyd on the wing etc - now I'm not saying Tedesco is an all-time great or anything like that - but he's a fine footy player with game-winning ability... whether you pick him on the wing or not.

Same goes for Moylan - the clueless who claim he's not the player Tedesco is obviously don't watch him every week - he does exactly what Teddy does for the Tigers - he sparks them.

Now QLD you say can get away with it because of the greatness factor but Slater, Inglis and co all started out as potentially great players at Origin level and it still took some time before they started to dominate Origin - even out of position.

But the point here is QLD realised that having as much quality in your side as possible is a big part of building a great side - even if it doesn't look like the right fit on paper - the ability of the players you pick make it work.

Or at least you give them a chance to make it work.

I get the loyalty argument - and it has merit of course, but so does picking a dynamic player like Tedesco somewhere in the team. Plus he was hurt for Game 1 so it's not like Daley definitively picked someone ahead of him.

And then there's Josh Dugan - who isn't fit for Game 2 but I'd still find room for him in the team - on the wing. And that's not a slight on Josh Mansour - he's a real good player - but to borrow the classic coaching move after a big loss - let's just drop a winger and everything will be fine.

So what does the NSW backline look like if Daley adopted the best available strategy for Game 3 (whether the series is alive or not)?

1. Moylan
2. Tedesco
3. Jennings/Morris
4. Morris/Ferguson
5. Dugan

Now Jennings, Morris and Ferguson all haven't set the world on fire this season (or in Game 1 when NSW didn't really use them) and yes, Dugan can play centre if you want to keep Mansour in the side.

But the key here is this combo has some serious extra pep with Teddy in the backline. And nothing stops him from swapping out with Moylan at times in attack or defence - again, this isn't reinventing the wheel but it adds options - and after Game 1 it's fairly clear NSW needed more options.

And what's wrong with options?

Would you pick Tedesco and Moylan in the same team?

Round 14 NRL Tips
National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - June 7, 2016

The NRL Tweet's Tips for Round 14 2016
Broncos over Raiders
Souths over Tigers (but toss a coin kids)
Warriors over Knights
Titans over Eels
Storm over Roosters
Panthers over Manly
Bulldogs over Dragons
Cowboys over Sharks

Last Week: 5/7
Broncos let us down again (but weren't the Warriors good!) and the Titans deserved to beat Souths (who are a yo-yo team in 2016). Cronulla saved us late on Monday to get to 5/7. And that 67.7% tipping rate is something to be proud of if you've stuck solid with us so far.

Round 14 Tipping Skinny: You are getting the tips on Tuesday night so here are some thoughts: Broncos are on a slide but they are a better side than Canberra, Souths/Tigers is a 'good luck' job, Warriors surely keep up the open footy in Newcastle, Titans deserve to be favourites in Darwin, Storm over Roosters is a ladder thing you have to respect, Panthers over Manly given all of Manly's outs, Dogs over Dragons maybe... and Cowboys to end Cronulla's run based on what I saw from the Sharks last week (sloppy - should've got in front with 20 to go and gone on with it - Dogs were out of points).

2016 SEASON TIPS:
67/99 at 67.7%
Round by Round: 5/8 | 6/8 | 4/8 | 5/8 | 7/8 | 5/8 | 5/8 | 7/8 | 4/8 | 4/8 | 3/4 | 5/7

Would you believe the Broncos were the ones who let us down? Also went QLD over NSW but not counting those games in our record.
