Game 1 @ ANZ Stadium
NSW 14 QLD 6
So who backs up?

With Origin 1 in the books and NSW taking a rather commanding 1-0 lead (as 1-0 leads go after losing 7 straight series) after a 14-6 win over QLD - attention turns to which Origin players will backup in Round 13 of the NRL this weekend.

Origin 1 wasn't as brutal as ones we have seen in the past, but a number of stars are in doubt to backup and at least one - Robbie Farah - might not be right even for Game 2 in Brisbane in late June.

For those playing at home - South Sydney are the unofficial Minor Premiers of the halfway mark of the competition, as they have a bye this weekend and will maintain at least a one point lead on Melbourne through 13 rounds.

The reason this went up Thursday night instead of its usual Wednesday afternoon slot - ORIGIN. No point putting out Late Mail before a game like Origin... and of course, injuries/resting players impact who we all tip right?

To the tips!

As far as Late Mail goes the rolling lockout for all you NRL Dream Team and NRL Super Coach nerds should have allowed you to make any last minute changes quite easily, but once again our Latest of Late Mail should help in any selections you make before the round begins.

The Postman has just some NRL Dream Team and NRL Super Coach gems for you this week - remember the Bunnies and Titans have the bye.

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Jarryd Hayne's high from Origin 1 was short-lived... learning his club is axing half the first grade squad would have put a damper on his winning experience. There's not a lot to suggest Parra will give the Roosters much of a scare but for Easts - lifting themselves for a relatively minor opponent is stark contrast to their matchup with the Storm two weeks ago. Hayne gives Parra hope, Sandow standing up and taking control gives them a chance... but you can't pick Parra - a trend in 2013. Roosters by 16 points.
EELS: Hayne is good to go. Let's see if Stuart cuts any of the 2014 deadweight as soon as this weekend.
LATE UPDATE? Will Reni Maitua really pull out? Decent way to justify Stuart's decision... FINAL 17: Maitua/Edwards out, Mullaney to 1, Kelly to 6, Paulo to 11, Hayne to bench.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
ROOSTERS: Maloney's mouth cut won't heal but he'll play, as will Pearce and Jennings.
LATE UPDATE? 1-16 with Isaac Liu replacing Lama Tasi in #17.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Yikes... don't want to tip either team on current form. Newcastle are going to be totally reliant on Mullen's kicking game, while the Dragons might be a whole new attacking beast now they've punted Soward to NSW Cup. If I knew Saints would give a youngster like Drinkwater a run in the halves instead of recycling a centre in Stanley... I'd lean Saints. But right now, Mullen's kicking game and Newcastle's defence (at home) gets them across the line. Knights by 10 points.
KNIGHTS: Uate trained this week but the Knights may give him another week just to be sure his ribs are healed. Boyd got through Origin but the quick turnaround might catch him out... at this stage he hopes to play.
LATE UPDATE? Boyd trained on Friday... looks good to go. Beau Scott might also make his comeback this week, Uate still yet to be confirmed. Scott in for Cuthbertson is only change.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
DRAGONS: Merrin and Morris will backup, while there is still a chance Steve Price is about to pull off another smokescreen and give Drinkwater a run... with Vidot as 18th man - he still could end up in the centres with Stanley. Cooper's toe still isn't right apparently...
LATE UPDATE? Merrin is a certainty, Morris is now a maybe. Are 1-17.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Thurston is nowhere near fit... even if he plays how good can he be with a rotten groin? The Dogs were ordinary in beating the Dragons last Friday but getting Reynolds back makes me go with Canterbury on the road. Just don't know where the points will come from for the Cowboys... whereas the Dogs have a few more options. Bulldogs by 12 points.
COWBOYS: Thurston is going to struggle to play given he barely made it on the field for Origin 1. Morgan would start at five-eighth, while Tate, Scott and Tamou will all likely backup.
LATE UPDATE?
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
BULLDOGS: Reynolds is a certain starter, Morris is likely. Lafai would give way to Morris, while Romelo misses for Reynolds.
LATE UPDATE? T-Rex flew to Townsville... does he have any relatives there? Mark him down for Browne's spot on the bench.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Okay all you geniuses who picked the Warriors as 'good things' against Brisbane on the road... pick the Warriors at home against Manly. Go on... I dare you. Not easy is it? They were great to watch throw the ball around in Brisbane but the Broncos just didn't stick on first contact and the Warriors got to play with freedom they havne't had all year... Manly won't accept defence like that - plus DCE has a sniff of an Origin spot - expect Manly to win but the Warriors shouldn't shy away from the contest. Sea Eagles by 14 points.
WARRIORS: Hard to make any changes to a team that won by 40 last start... but if Lowrie is fit he'd come in for Ikihihifo.
LATE UPDATE? Packer has withdrawn with a chest injury... Matagi will come in for him.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
SEA EAGLES: Watmough will backup.
LATE UPDATE? Expect them to be 1-17.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Wanted to pick the Tigers before Origin... and Farah's injury. Now I almost have to settle for the Panthers - even if they aren't anything near an impressive footy team. That being said - they are winning right now, and the Tigers got a little fortunate to beat the Cowboys last start... want to say Marshall can win this on his own... but I've got a tipping percentage to improve. Take the Panthers by 2 points... take a punt on the Tigers if you are chasing tips.
PANTHERS: Plenty of first graders in NSW Cup this week... but this group of Panthers are winners of 3 in a row.
LATE UPDATE? Moylan has to play NSW Cup per NRL instructions re: Salary Cap, and Robinson might follow him. That would see Naiqama and probably Mansour reinstated as they are now fit. And in another blow - Grant is out with a broken hand and Roberts has an eye socket injury. Ciraldo comes in for Grant, Naiqama for Moylan and Mansour may end up in the run on team with Brown moving into the pack.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
TIGERS: Farah is out with a swollen face, replaced by Iosefa. There's also a chance a notable outside back returns from injury a week ahead of schedule... Simona would make way.
LATE UPDATE? Anasta is apparently in doubt.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Gallen is out and Smith plays his 250th game... milestones aren't always a huge factor in league like they seem to be in AFL (in terms of impacting team performance) but the Sharks will miss Gallen in a contest like this. If Lewis also misses and at least Cronk and Smith play for the Storm - have to stick with Melbourne by 10 points. Let's see what Carney has for us after watching Maloney's performance in Origin 1.
STORM: Smith plays his 250th game this weekend - at home - so he will backup. Cronk will as well, as should Hoffman. Only concern would be Slater, but the game is Sunday so they are all likely to play.
LATE UPDATE?
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
SHARKS: Gallen takes a week off for Myles headbutting his fist twice, but Fifita will backup and Lewis is a possible. Peachey probably replaces Gallen with Heighington starting. Gallen wasn't named in any grade, so may come in for Gallen or a bench player.
LATE UPDATE?

@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Canberra have had a long break and the Broncos just got smashed by the team coming 16th... This is a classic game that the current Raiders lose... so pick Canberra at your peril. I will be. Brisbane get their Origin stars back who will have a bee in their bonnet, but Prince and Wallace just do nothing for me as a combination. Campese's looked good in recent weeks, so Raiders by 10 points.
RAIDERS: Shillington is fine, and Buttriss will most likely return from a calf injury at hooker for Shaun Berrigan. Edwards probably misses with a hamstring strain, while Croker may overcome his own hammy strain.
LATE UPDATE? Buttriss and Edwards look likely, Croker in doubt with Earl on standby.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
BRONCOS: Thaiday, Gillett and Parker are good to go, Hodges is the question mark. Reed left training on Thursday - so is in doubt. Maranta probably comes in to the squad.
LATE UPDATE? Hodges has travelled... the other 3 Origin players are good to go.
The Postman's DT/SC TIP: To come...
