ROUND 2 NRL RESULTS - 2011 SEASON

SO FAR... Panthers bounce back, Parramatta never in it, Broncos grind out a win, Raiders get ahead of themselves, Storm strike big time, Titans fall flat, Tigers find a way to win, the Warriors drop to 0-2, Newcastle do it easy, North Queensland might have a new coach very soon after that performance, Canterbury get a gift late, Souths throw another one away, Manly muscle up, the Roosters get bashed and... Cronulla give it to St.George-Illawarra. Wow.

Here on www.wdnicolson.com we've got all the Game Results, Match Reports, Game Highlights, Game Stats, Injury News & NRL Tweet Player of the Year Award Votes in the one place.
This Round Review also integrates our NRL Injured List - which if you haven't bookmarked by now - I suggest you do so.
This year not only do you get The NRL Tweet's Tips each week but the whole NOT The Footy Show team will have their picks listed by Thursday so you can back a smoky or a favourite by seeing who we all picked (or didn't pick). We make no promises that we'll get everything right but at least one of us should be good for a lazy 60-65% success rate in 2011.

ROUND 2 RESULTS
16/3 Odds are courtesy of Sportingbet Australia
6 - 20Fri @ Parramatta | GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Penrith make a lot of good judges look foolish by comprehensively outplaying the Eels 20-6 at Parramatta. Luke Walsh the maestro.
Injuries: Travis Burns (Hamstring), Mitchell Allgood (Hand), Tim Mannah (Head Gash)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: N Wilbow
4 - Petero Civoniceva, PEN
Led the forward pack with big metres up the middle.
2 - Luke Walsh, PEN
Kicked the Panthers into the Eels half all night and made it tough for the Eels to get any field position.
1 - Lachlan Coote, PEN
Safe at the back, scored a good try and ran for 152 metres.
Judge: M Vickers
4 - Luke Walsh, PEN
Controlled the game.  Kicking was very good, burying Parramatta deep inside their 20 for the majority of the first half.  Was also pivotal in Penrith’s two first half tries.
2 - Petero Civoniceva, PEN
Made 152 metres from 16 carries and 24 tackles; a typical Petero performance. Set the platform in difficult conditions from which Luke Walsh and the outside backs capitalised on.
1 - Michael Gordon, PEN
Could have gone Jennings or Coote, but Gordon’s opportunistic try just after half time took the game out of Parramatta’s reach, even with 30 minutes to go.

4 - 20Fri @ Canberra | GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Brisbane don't ever get out of 3rd gear yet waltz away from Canberra with a huge 20-4 victory. Raiders pretty ordinary to say the least.
Injuries: David Shillington (Leg), Ben Te'o (Concussion), Scott Anderson (Calf)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: M Duncan
4 - Josh McGuire, BRI
All the Brisbane forwards went well but "The Big Show" off the bench was the stand out. Ran with purpose, bending the defence with every hit up.
2 - Jack Reed, BRI
Showed great hands to set up the game breaking try and pulled off 4 key 1 on 1 tackles to close down dangerous Canberra attacking raids.
1 - Shaun Fensom, CAN
A great effort by the young Canberra forward. Tackled himself into the ground. A shining light in an otherwise disappointing Raiders pack.
Judge: W Nicolson
4 - Andrew McCullough, BRI
In a game when there was no clear stand out for the Broncos, I'll reward the defensive ability of their hooker who made 35 tackles which reflected Brisbane's ability to curtail Canberra's roll on through the middle of the ruck. Good performance.
2 - Shaun Fensom, CAN
Canberra's best by a mile on the night. Cracked the half century for tackles made and ran the ball when his bigger team-mates went missing. Pulled off some big hits on the line.
1 - Jharal Yow Yeh, BRI
Had a shaky start to the game but he produced a freakish try and another great run to finish off the Raiders in the second half.

40 - 12Sat @ AAMI | GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Melbourne show they can still play high quality football as they obliterate an ordinary Titans outfit 40-12. Cooper Cronk brilliant.
Injuries: Matt Duffie (Shoulder - late withdrawal), Sika Manu (Knee), Kevin Gordon (Knee)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: J Davies
4 - Cooper Cronk, MEL
It was a virtuoso performance, he was everything, setting up tries, scoring them.
2 - Billy Slater, MEL
Scored twice to break the club record and was a key factor in the domination.
1 - Sika Manu, MEL
Ran through a huge gap to score and hit the line all day, making inroads every time.
Judge: G Delaney
4 - Cooper Cronk, MEL
Outstanding display from Cronk. Got Melbourne on the front foot with his kicking game. Got the ball rolling with a chip over the top and volley for Quinn's try.
2 - Kevin Proctor, MEL
Break through game for Proctor. Terrorised the Titans on edge for 144 metres, 4 tackle busts and 1 try assist. Also made 27 tackles.
1 - Gareth Widdop, MEL
Great support for Cronk at five-eighth. Had 2 try assists and 2 line breaks he proved he has it at first grade level.

20 - 12Sat @ Leichhardt | GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: The Wests Tigers peg back a 12-6 deficit with 18 minutes left to beat the Warriors 20-12 at Leichhardt. Warriors sink to 0-2 in 2011.
Injuries: Gareth Ellis (Ankle - late withdrawal 4-6 weeks), Bryce Gibbs (Knee - late withdrawal), Isaac John (Ankle)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: M Tsialis
4 - Chris Lawrence, WTG
Showed why he will push hard for an Origin spot this year. Worried the Warriors every time he had the ball.
2 - Benji Marshall, WTG
Benji seems to shine at Leichhardt and this game was no different. Controlled everything with ease... except his goalkicking.
1 - Simon Mannering, WAR
Tried his heart out and scored a try to boot. With a few calls going the Warriors' way things could've been different.
Judge: C Buchanan
4 - Benji Marshall, WTG
Cleary the best on field. Had a hand in everything, setting up 3 of the 4 Tigers tries.
2 - Krisnan Inu, WAR
Calm under the high ball, and that side line work was awesome in the lead up to his try.
1 - Robert Lui, WTG
Had a good evening with some key passes and also set up the other Tigers try.

22 - 34Sat @ Dairy Farmers GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Newcastle easily account for North Queensland 34-22. Don't let the scoreline fool you - the Cowboys were disgraceful when it mattered.
Injuries: Matthew Scott (Corked Knee), Junior Sa'u (Groin), Jarrod Mullen (Sternum)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: M McLucas
4 - Jarrod Mullen, NEW
Head and shoulders above the rest. Kicking game perfect including 2 40/20's and a hand in 2 tries.
2 - Chris Houston, NEW
Got through some hard work and looked good with ball in hand. Top effort.
1 - Akuila Uate, NEW
Made his opposite winger look very very ordinary. Made good metres with his charges and scored a try and set up another.
Judge: R Neilsen
4 - Jarrod Mullen, NEW
Produced two 40/20s and a lovely kicking game. Setting up multiple Newcastle attacking opportunities. Solid defence as well but had to leave the game with a sternum injury late.
2 - Akuila Uate, NEW
Set up the first try, scored soon after, and a good defensive effort with a screamer of a try saving tackle!
1 - Cory Paterson, NEW
A strong defensive game (21 tackles) and exposed a gaping hole to score a try.

19 - 28@ ANZ GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Canterbury produce another solid performance to edge the Rabbitohs 28-19 at ANZ. Souths throw another one away after taking the lead late.
Injuries: David Stagg (Quad - late withdrawal)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: W Nicolson
4 - Aiden Tolman, CBY
He's not Glenn Lazarus but gee the signs are there that maybe he's not far off. Lazarus had the ability to make effort tackle on effort tackle and back it up with multiple hit ups in a set... Tolman has been doing just that for the Dogs and plays huge minutes for a prop.
2 - Jamal Idris, CBY
The off-field discussion surrounding his future clearly hasn't impacted his football on the field. Was a big factor out wide and made Greg Inglis look very foolish on more than one occasion.
1 - Dave Taylor, SOU
Pulled his finger out for this game after being a non-factor against the Roosters the week before. Remembered he was a enormous human being and ran and hit accordingly.
Judge: B Hoese
4 - Aiden Tolman, CBY
In an ill-disciplined side he was the work horse who stood well above the rest. 28 tackles and 26 runs for a total of 176m with no handling errors. Kept the team moving forward.
2 - Tim Lafai, CBY
19 year old under the pressure of his NRL debut, scored a good try, showed pace and made 13 runs for 100m total including 13 tackle busts and 1 line break. South's almost underestimated him.
1 - Jamal Idris, CBY
If Chris Sandow hadn't made some bad choices he could easily have been here... but he did and Idris was strong in defence making 15 tackles and in attack with 140m from 14 runs, including 1 line break, 12 tackle busts, 1 try and 3 offloads.

16 - 27@ SFS| GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: It's amazing what self belief can do for a team down on troops. Manly bash a sorry Roosters outfit in the 2nd half to win 27-16 at SFS.
Injuries: Anthony Watmough (Shoulder)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: M Spillane
4 - Kieran Foran, MAN
Was super in the 2nd half for the Sea Eagles with the ball and put in some monster hits in defence. Bagged a try and was involved in a couple more.
2 - Jamie Buhrer, MAN
Great defensive effort from the young bloke in a very rare run on performance.
1 - Daly Cherry-Evans, MAN
Linked beautifully with his outside man in Foran, and controlled the game especially in the second half with a great kicking game.
Judge: D Neville
4 - Anthony Watmough, MAN
His defence was great, and his running game was very good all afternoon.
2 - Kieran Foran, MAN
Played all over his mate Mitchell Pearce and smashed bigger men all arvo.
1 - Daly Cherry-Evans, MAN
Played like a good half back should... which isn't bad considering this was  only his 2nd game in the top grade.

16 - 10@ Toyota | GAME STATS
NRLTweet Game Summary: Cronulla produce their best performance in quite a while by totally outplaying the Premiers 16-10 at a slightly damp Toyota Stadium.
Injuries: Anthony Tupou (Concussion/Leg), Jeremy Smith (Sternum), Michael Weyman (Groin)
2011 @NRLTweet Player of the Year Votes
Judge: H Southon
4 - Paul Gallen, CRO
Played a 'Captain's Knock'. The Sharks skipper lead the way with a quality AND quantity performance. Gallen took it to the Dragons forward pack, and his troops followed.
2 -  Jeremy Smith, CRO
Just when Dragons supporters wondered where their 'Mongrel' was, they only had to look across and see he was now in a Sharks jersey. Strong running game, good offloads, and aggression in defence.
1 - Colin Best, CRO
Edged out Kade Snowden for the 1 point here. Provided good metres running out of dummy half and took the pressure off the hard working forwards with several hit ups of his own coming out of trouble.
Judge: W Nicolson
4 - Paul Gallen, CRO
There are games where Gallen's work-rate works against the team's effectiveness in attack but in the wet conditions this was a game made for the lock forward. Ran the ball 25+ times and barely missed a tackle and most importantly - didn't make a mistake. Huge for the Sharks.
2 - Jeremy Smith, CRO
Gets his first win as a Shark and it came against the team he won a premiership with last year - so it'd be extra sweet. Threw himself into the contest and made a point to dak Michael Weyman's pants every time he tackled him.
1 - Kade Snowden, CRO
The big bopper bopped a few heads with some monster hits. Carried the ball strongly and made the ruck a place that Dragons feared to tred.
