ROUND SIXTEEN OF THE NRL PREMIERSHIP SEASON 2010
DRAGONS0-0TIGERS
|=| St.George-Illawarra Dragons 00: TBD.
|=| Wests Tigers 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From WIN Jubilee: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: STI $1.45 v WTG $2.75
|=| Wednesday's Preview: Get on the Tigers... yes for whatever insane reason I believe that this Friday Night at Kogarah - we see a stand by the Tigers that will confirm in the minds of many that they are true Premiership contenders. The Dragons have won two games in a row the hard way - against both the Warriors & Sharks they didn't play great but showed they can win a game with the grind. The Tigers have just about reached full strength (only Tim Moltzen, Liam Fulton & Jason Cayless are unavailable) and they ground out a game of their own last Sunday against Canberra. The game should be a cracker but the class of Robbie Farah & Benji Marshall can shine through if the Tigers forwards stand up to the tenacity of the St.George-Illawarra pack. Even at Kogarah - the Wests Tigers steal this one.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail):
St.George-Illawarra welcome back Jon Green & Michael Weyman from one week out and Jake Marketo drops out of the squad. Matt Cooper is still out with a hamstring tear and Mark Gasnier (who has all but officially signed with the Dragons) is not available for this match. Kyle Stanley keeps his spot in the centres, while either Nick Emmett or Jarrod Saffy will lose their spot on the bench. The Tigers got Keith Galloway back last week and look to have settled on Junior Moors ahead of Andrew Fifita on the bench with Todd Payten moving to the backrow. Wade McKinnon makes his second start at fullback. Rookie backrower Simon Dwyer has been very good in recent weeks so he may start. Update 24/6: Hearing that Robert Lui, Wade McKinnon, Chris Heighington, Lote Tuqiri and Robbie Farah are all in doubt for this game... may have to change my tip if true! But at this stage of the season a lot of players are carrying injuries... odds are they just didn't train when the 'spies' where out and about. Our tip is Marshall to halfback, Ayshford to five-eighth and Daniela into the centres if Lui is ruled out. Update late 24/6: Now we're hearing that Lui is definitely out and Liam Fulton may come back from injury. Any number of combinations could emerge with Lui out - the most likely is Fulton or Fitzhenry to five-eighth and Marshall to halfback... or Ayshford or Lawrence to five-eighth and Geoff Daniela into the centres. Update 25/6: With Lui out - the strongest whisper yet is Ayshford to five-eighth, Marshall to halfback and Daniela at right centre. The Dragons will trim one of Emmett, Saffy or Green from their bench after Dean Young passed a fitness test.

|=| FRIDAY
PANTHERS0-0SEA EAGLES
|=| Penrith Panthers 00: TBD.
|=| Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 00: TBD
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From CUA: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: PEN $1.50 v MAN $2.60
|=| Wednesday's Preview: Both the Panthers and Sea Eagles are coming off impressive victories in Round 15 - Penrith stopped the Brisbane machine at Suncorp and Manly overcame the Rabbitohs at Brookvale. Penrith are likely to have Petero Civoniceva back for this clash while Manly have lost Jamie Lyon to a long term ankle injury. Even without Civoniceva returning I was prepared to pick the Panthers at home in front of what should be a crowd pushing 20,000 and we all know how Manly's attack falls apart without Lyon a part of it. Take the Panthers at home on Friday Night.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail): With Civoniceva a likely starter (must pass a fitness test on his hand) the Panthers look strong. They've also named Travis Burns to return from a hamstring injury but he's probably another week away. Matt Bell would be the man most likely to shift to the bench for Civoniceva while Frank Puletua would miss out. For Manly - they replace Lyon with Dean Whare and Matt Cross joins a 5 man bench. Update 25/6: Manly have no changes with Matt Cross the man most likely to drop off the bench, the Panthers will get Petero Civoniceva back and expect Burns & Puletua to drop off the bench.

|=| SATURDAY
EELS0-0BRONCOS
|=| Parramatta Eels 00: TBD.
|=| Brisbane Broncos 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From Parramatta: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: PAR $1.91 v BRI $1.91
|=| Wednesday's Preview: Parramatta had the Knights on toast on Monday and yet once the fulltime siren blew - found themselves down 6-4 thanks to a Kurt Gidley sideline conversion. In a terrible game the Eels were the better team but Luke Burt's kicking was the difference - missing two kicks that would've iced the game. They face a Brisbane side that will be disappointed they got away from the basics on Friday v Penrith - something that cost them a 6th straight win. Darren Lockyer, Sam Thaiday and Israel Folau were all disappointing backing up from Origin 2 - so look for better performances from the star trio. Parramatta will be without Eric Grothe and Timana Tahu and that's where it looks like Brisbane have got their measure - out wide. Broncos on the road for the 2 points.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from
SMH's Late Mail): Grothe (injury) and Tahu (suspension) are out for the Eels. Jonathon Wright and Krisnan Inu will start. Ben Smith also has been named after being a late withdrawal against the Knights - Brendan Oake makes way. The Broncos lost Alex Glenn to an ankle injury late in the Penrith game and Matt Gillett will start at centre. Otherwise there are no changes for the Broncos. Update 25/6: No changes from the 17 listed by both teams on Tuesday.

|=| SATURDAY
COWBOYS0-0SHARKS
|=| North Queensland Cowboys 00: TBD.
|=| Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From Dairy Farmers: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: NQL $1.48 v CRO $2.65
|=| Wednesday's Preview: North Queensland are the favourite yet they are coming off a 58-12 thrashing by the Storm. The Sharks gave the Dragons a much bigger fight before going down 22-4 - yet are the $2.65 outsiders. Having said all that - the Cowboys are a team that gives up the ghost when things go against them in the first half so the final score line v Melbourne wasn't a surprise. The Sharks just struggle to create good scoring opportunities and if they don't punish North Queensland early - the class of Johnathan Thurston & Matthew Bowen will beat them in the end. If Thurston is fair dinkum about being anything other than a great representative player, North Queensland at home should be too good.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from
SMH's Late Mail): The Cowboys have named Shannon Gallant at fullback and Ben Harris in the centres, with Ashley Graham moving to the wing. Bowen will play five-eighth again alongside Thurston in the halves. James Tamou will start at prop, while Carl Webb is back on the bench after missing the Storm game. Isaak Ah Mau is also a new face on the bench. The Sharks have lost Kade Snowden to a one week suspension for a late shot on Jamie Soward and Josh Cordoba (who was a surprise addition v the Dragons) will start with Taulima Tautai and Adam Cuthbertson promoted to the bench. Ben Pomeroy is listed at centre... still not sure why. Luke Covell made a comeback from a knee reconstruction in NSW Cup after having an artificial ACL implanted and may be a late change if he makes the trip to Townsville. Update 24/6: North Queensland have released Antonio Kaufusi to the Newcastle Knights as of next week. Update 25/6: Carl Webb looks set to play with Isaak Ah Mau or Dane Hogan to drop off the bench. No confirmed word on whether or not Luke Covell travelled to Townsville... even assuming he didn't Taulima Tautai would be the one to miss out.

|=| SATURDAY
RABBITOHS0-0STORM
| South Sydney Rabbitohs 00: TBD.
| Melbourne Storm 00: TBD.
| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From ME Bank: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: SOU $2.65 v MEL $1.48
|=| Wednesday's Preview: Great game on paper with the Bunnies needing to reverse a two game slide and the Storm coming off a scintillating 58-12 win over the Cowboys. Melbourne were awesome on Saturday and when Greg Inglis can go off after being dominant in the 1st half and your team actually plays even better... wow - something clicked in the Storm that night. If they click again the Bunnies will be up against it to keep up. This game is a home fixture for South Sydney but they've taken it to Perth (which is GREAT) and in doing so have probably negated whatever advantage they may have had going into this game. Melbourne switched on will be too good but the Bunnies might get the Storm on a down week... either way you've gotta believe Melbourne will stay hot - so pick the Storm in Perth.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail): South Sydney have retained the same 17 that went down 26-25 to Manly at Brookvale. Still no sign of Michael Crocker but Eddy Pettybourne's two week rest on doctor's orders for his jaw complaint is up... no word yet if he made the trip to Perth. The Storm shuffled their backrow with Kevin Proctor named as starting lock, Justin O'Neill's hat-trick earned him another start on the wing and Ryan Hinchcliffe, Todd Lowrie, Aiden Tolman, Jeff Lima and 18th man Rory Kostjasyn fill bench. Update 25/6: No changes for the Storm and the Bunnies appear to be 1-17.

|=| SUNDAY
ROOSTERS0-0WARRIORS
|=| Sydney Roosters 00: TBD.
|=| Warriors 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From AMI: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: SYD $1.91 v WAR $1.91
|=| Wednesday's Preview: The Roosters take this game to Christchurch in New Zealand because the odds of getting a crowd above 5,000 for a clash with the Warriors were about as good as Kevin Rudd's chances of still being Prime Minister in the morning. Brian Smith has moved Todd Carney to five-eighth, Anthony Minichiello stays at fullback and Braith Anasta is at lock - a mix that actually looks even better than the one the Roosters have been running with for the opening four months of the season. Nate Myles at prop is a little puzzling but there's no doubt the Roosters bench just got a boost with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves back alongside Mose Masoe and Joseph Leilua - both of which were very good against Melbourne two weeks ago. The Warriors are playing good football at the moment having been narrowly beaten by the Dragons at home and then overcoming the Knights in Newcastle. The halves combo of Isaac John and James Maloney is going great guns and Joel Moon had his best game as a Warrior at centre against Newcastle. If Steven Price was able to make a comeback in this game - you'd pick the Warriors... but sadly his NRL career looks over. As a result - take the Roosters in Christchurch.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail): Rookie Kane Linnett holds his spot at centre which is one reason why Brian Smith mixed his playmakers around. With Waerea-Hargreaves on the bench, Mitchell Aubusson is joined by Frank-Paul Nu'uausala in the second row and Myles moves to prop. The Warriors promote Jeremy Latimore to start at prop with Jesse Royal on the bench. Sione Lousi is 18th man but is unlikely to play. Update 25/6: No changes for either team for the clash in Christchurch.

TITANS0-0KNIGHTS
|=| Gold Coast Titans 00: TBD.
|=| Newcastle Knights 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From Skilled: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: GLD $1.45 v NEW 2.65
|=| Wednesday's Preview:Gold Coast lost Scott Prince early in their 25-24 win over Canterbury and he won't be playing this week against the Knights so don't count Newcastle out. Preston Campbell returns and will play at halfback which probably doesn't weaken the Titans too much as William Zillman is a fine fullback. With Luke Bailey & Ashley Harrison also in line to return, Newcastle will face a quality team even without Prince. The Knights were lucky to beat the Eels in the final few minutes of an error-fest at EnergyAustralia on Monday and despite gaining some confidence from that victory... you have to pick the Gold Coast at Skilled on Sunday.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail): Prince is out with a hamstring tear and Campbell is his replacement. Bailey & Harrison come in, while Luke O'Dwyer was lost to a hamstring injury. Hooker Kayne Lawton joins the bench. Newcastle named the same 17 plus Con Mika from their win over Parramatta. Ben Rogers held onto his spot at five-eighth despite a shocker v Parramatta. Update 24/6: Newcastle have signed Antonio Kaufusi from the North Queensland Cowboys but he won't be available until Round 18. While Kaufusi's signing is immediate the Knights also snared youngsters Beau Henry (Dragons) and Siuatonga Likiliki (Warriors) for 2011. Update 25/6: Isaac De Gois is in serious doubt with a hand injury suffered against Parramatta - George Ndaira would come in for him. Jarrod Mullen has a shoulder problem but should play. The Titans are still to confirm that Campbell & Bailey will play and there's some talk that Scott Prince may in fact line up despite a hamstring injury.

|=| MONDAY
RAIDERS0-0BULLDOGS
|=| Canberra Raiders 00: TBD.
|=| Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 00: TBD.
|=| The NRL Tweet's Game Notes From Canberra: See Results Article on Monday.
|=| Wednesday's Market: CAN $1.55 v CBY $2.45
|=| Wednesday's Preview: Canberra at home are a different beast than what we've seen the past two weeks and a Monday Night game in the freezing cold is just what the doctor ordered. The Raiders led the Tigers 8-6 with 5 minutes left but lost 18-8 which to be honest was probably a fair reflection of the difference in the game. It's not the first time the Raiders have let a lead slip in the 2nd half in 2010... and it won't be the last. The Bulldogs however can't buy a win and some average tactics cost them big time against the Titans last Friday Night. Ben Barba starts but who knows what kind of game plan Kevin Moore has in store for him to play by... the Raiders at home on a Monday Night is the selection.
|=| Team Selection + Fantasy News 23/6 (Friday's Update with help from SMH's Late Mail):
Canberra have not named Josh Dugan but he is expected to undergo a fitness test later in the week and is probably 60/40 to play. Adam Mogg has finally ousted a woefully performing Josh McCrone at halfback and Shaun Fensom will start at lock again for Trevor Thurling. Scott Logan broke his wrist and will be replaced one of Josh Miller, Joe Picker or Justin Carney. The Bulldogs promoted Barba to five-eighth ahead of Blake Green and Chris Armit has been dropped. Ryan Tandy will start with Mickey Paea and Dene Halatau finally seeing the light of day in 1st Grade once more. Update 25/6: No more word on Dugan's status - but given it is a Monday Night game, he's still every chance. David Milne would drop out if Dugan played. Josh Miller is trying to return from a hamstring injury and Jarrod Croker is still not over his corked thigh - Joe Picker & Justin Carney are on standby. The Bulldogs will shave either Brad Morrin or Dene Halatau from their 5 man bench. There is some speculation on Friday arvo that there will be changes to the Canterbury lineup on Monday... big changes. Pure speculation here but Ben Barba to fullback and Patten to five-eighth/bench seems to be the most likely 'big change'. Best way to convince a veteran to leave is for the Bulldogs to take Patten's starting spot off him. Update 28/6: Jamal Idris moves to the backrow, Shane Neumann comes into the centres. Josh Dugan will play.
