ROUND FOURTEEN OF THE NRL PREMIERSHIP SEASON 2010
BYESBYES

FRIDAY
VTitans v Sea Eagles
+ Post Game Tweet + Rd 14 Notes from Skilled:
 Market Watch:  GLD $1.48 v MAN $2.65
Tuesday's Preview:  The Gold Coast put on a show in the final 20 minutes against Canberra but Anthony Laffranchi's selfishness stopped them from winning a game they once trailed 26-6 in. Scott Prince, Greg Bird & Preston Campbell are great players and their presence holds the key in this game with Manly on Friday Night. Manly have zero State of Origin reps but injured duo Anthony Watmough & Jamie Lyon would have been picked and Jason King is still a chance of playing if there are any injuries to NSW forwards. This game is at Skilled and as a result it is hard to think Manly can win without Watmough, Lyon and the suspended Steven Matai... the Sea Eagles looked quite impotent without their regular centres and the pressure will be on Kieran Foran & Trent Hodkinson to find alternate routes to points on the Gold Coast. If this was at Brookvale you'd take Manly but this is a game that demands you pick the Titans.
Selection & Fantasy News 8/6 (with help from SMH's Late Mail):  State of Origin Reps for Game 2 - Harrison for Titans & possibly Jason King for Sea Eagles. King was in the initial 21 man NSW squad but could be on standby for Michael Weyman. The Sea Eagles lost Anthony Watmough to injury - although they would have lost him to NSW anyway. William Hopoate keeps his spot, while Chris Bailey starts for Watmough and Joe Galuvao, Vic Mauro & Jamie Buhrer join the bench. The Titans have omitted Clinton Toopi & Joseph Tomane with Mat Rogers & Sam Tagataese starting at centre. Bodene Thompson locks the scrum for Harrison, while rookie Ryan James and veterans Luke O'Dwyer & William Zillman join the bench. Update 11/6: Mat Rogers should play after being named earlier than expected to return from a knee injury. While rookie forward Ryan James seems set to debut from the bench. Jason King will definitely play for Manly.
 NRL Tweet's Prediction: Titans by 6 =  ?

SATURDAY
VCowboys v Raiders
+ Post Game Tweet + Rd 14 Notes from Dairy Farmers:
 Market Watch:  NQL $2.45 v CAN $1.55
Tuesday's Preview:  Canberra have beaten St.George-Illawarra and the Gold Coast in their past two games so they should have no problems beating the deplorable North Queensland Cowboys - even on the road. Canberra are minus David Shillington & Tom Learoyd-Lahrs to Origin duty but the Cowboys don't have Johnathan Thurston, Willie Tonga, Luke O'Donnell & Matthew Scott... so advantage Canberra. If Josh Dugan can play (he suffered a knee cork v Titans) then you'd imagine his combination with the young Canberra backline outside Terry Campese should be too much for the Cowboys leftovers. Take Canberra on the road with some confidence.
Selection & Fantasy News 8/6 (with help from SMH's Late Mail):  State of Origin Reps for Game 2 - Thurston, O'Donnell, Tonga & Scott for Nth Qld & Shillington and Learoyd-Lahrs for Canberra. The Cowboys also get Michael Morgan back from injury, promote Isaak Ah Mau & Steve Rapira, while John Williams moves onto the wing. Canberra get Shaun Fensom back from injury while Adam Mogg & Danny Galea join the bench. Josh Dugan is in some doubt with a corked knee. Update 11/6: Josh Dugan must pass a fitness test in order to take his place (He did not and was ruled out late Friday) - David Milne will likely come in for Dugan. The Cowboys are yet to decide on the final makeup of their bench. Update 12/6: Joel Monaghan has joined NSW as cover for Timana Tahu. Brett Kelly or Justin Carney will replace him on the wing for Canberra.
 NRL Tweet's Prediction: Raiders by 10 =  ?

SUNDAY
VKnights v Warriors
+ Post Game Tweet + Rd 14 Notes from EnergyAustralia:
 Market Watch:  NEW $1.55 v WAR $2.45
Tuesday's Preview:  Newcastle were ordinary in their loss to the Panthers at CUA and the Warriors gave a good account of themselves in their loss to the Dragons - but this game is at EnergyAustralia and you just know the Knights are poised to 'put it altogether' this week. But give the Warriors some respect - they turned a 44 point loss v the Tigers into a 2 point loss v the Dragons so there was a lot of improvement. The halves battle looks delicious with Scott Dureau & Jarrod Mullen the best combo for the Knights and the Warriors duo of Isaac John & James Maloney was excellent last week. If the Knights have an edge it is in their edge runners but this is a game the Warriors could snatch from Newcastle's grasp. As far as genuine upsets go this week - a Warriors win would be a smart pick but I'll stick with the Knights in this one.
Selection & Fantasy News 8/6 (with help from SMH's Late Mail):  State of Origin Res for Game 2 - Gidley for Newcastle. Although the Warriors have no rep players - they did lost Brent Tate to a serious jaw injury and his place has been taken by Joel Moon in the centres. There's a cosmetic change in the halves with Isaac John switching jerseys with James Maloney - even though John played halfback v the Dragons. The Knights also recall Mark Taufua and Scott Dureau for Shannon McDonnell & Gidley. Update 11/6: Despite being named to play fullback again this week - Wes Naiqama is facing another late shift to the bench to accomodate Shannon McDonnell. Mark Taufua is still 50/50 to return from a knee injury with either McDonnell or rookie Joel Edwards to take his place in the 17. The Warriors are good to go.
 NRL Tweet's Prediction: Knights by 4  ?

SUNDAY
VBroncos v Rabbitohs
+ Post Game Tweets + Rd 14 Notes from Suncorp:
 Market Watch:  BRI $1.77 v SOU $2.05
Tuesday's Preview:  Brisbane are riding an impressive four match winning streak but so are the Rabbitohs. The representative drain on this game is significant and Brisbane are the hardest hit in terms of skill players out. No Darren Lockyer is a massive factor and Corey Norman has a lot of pressure on him to ease the playmaking strain on Peter Wallace. South Sydney have their backline in tact but if Issac Luke is suspended on Wednesday Night - the loss of edge backrowers Sam Burgess & Dave Taylor to rep duty - Souths big advantage is limited. Tough to back against the Broncos at home but despite South Sydney having next to no bench (and now Luke has been suspended & Pettybourne is out) - I'm still taking the Bunnies at Suncorp.
Selection & Fantasy News 8/6 (with help from SMH's Late Mail):  State of Origin Reps for Game 2 - Lockyer, Thaiday, Folau for Brisbane (Yow Yeh is 18th man but should play Sunday) & Dave Taylor is out for the Rabbitohs (as is Sam Burgess who flew to England to play a Test Match against France). Brisbane move Matt Gillett to the centres, Corey Norman comes in at five-eighth and Ashton Sims replaces Thaiday in the backrow. Props Nick Kenny & Scott Anderson have been included on the bench. For Souths Eddy Pettybourne & Jason Clark start in the second row, while the bench looks very light with Dave Tyrrell & Garret Crossman the only forwards and outside backs Jamie Simpson & Luke Capewell alongside them. The status of Issac Luke in regards to suspension has a huge bearing on this game. Update 9/6: Issac Luke got suspended because he hit Johnathan Thurston late... in otherwords don't touch the golden boy. Update 10/6: Now South Sydney have lost Eddy Pettybourne to swelling in his jaw from a previous injury. No word on his replacement yet. The Rabbitohs have in fact signed Craig Stapleton for the rest of 2010 and he will play this Sunday. Michael Crocker is also a chance of returning from an ankle injury. Update 11/6: In the wake of all the changes for Souths - their final changes are Beau Falloon at hooker and Craig Stapleton to start at prop. Luke Stuart will shift into the backrow alongside Jason Clark and Ben Lowe. The bench might see a late surprise with Michael Crocker otherwise it will be Jamie Simpson, Dave Tyrrell, Luke Capewell & Garret Crossman. Brisbane are set to be 1-17.
 NRL Tweet's Prediction: Rabbitohs by 8  ?

MONDAY
VStorm v Roosters
+ Post Game Tweet + Rd 14 Notes from AAMI.
 Market Watch:  MEL $2.35 v SYD $1.60
Tuesday's Preview:  Melbourne are without their four best players for this game so maybe we will see what life could be like for the Storm post-2010. That being said the Storm will retain at least two of Cameron Smith, Billy Slater, Greg Inglis & Cooper Cronk beyond this season... and one player who won't be there next season - Brett Finch holds Melbourne's chances in his hands. Adam Blair skippers the Storm - who have a good forward pack this week but the Roosters should be filthy with themselves for clocking off against the Sharks and Brian Smith must know his team cannot let a Storm team full of Under 8's beat them - even at AAMI. Roosters on the road here.
Selection & Fantasy News 8/6 (with help from SMH's Late Mail):  State of Origin Reps for Game 2 - Smith, Slater, Inglis, Cronk, White for Melbourne, while Myles & Pearce are out for the Roosters. Gareth Widdop is also unavailable for the Storm as he's playing a Test Match for England and Ryan Hoffman picked up an injury against Parramatta and will miss this game. Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is also out with a chest injury. The Storm add rookie Justin O'Neill at fullback with Luke Kelly at half, Chase Stanely back in at centre and Ryan Tandy, Rory Kostjasyn & another rookie Robert Rachow named on the bench. The Roosters move Anthony Minichiello to fullback, Todd Carney to half and Mose Masoe will start at prop. Lopini Paea and Martin Kennedy join the bench. Update 11/6: Both Melbourne & Sydney look to be merely deciding the make up of their benches for their Monday Night game - so expect no significant changes. Update 12/6: Ryan Tandy was released by the Storm to join Canterbury on Saturday and will not feature in this game.
 NRL Tweet's Prediction: Roosters by 12 =  ?
