NRL Finals 2009 Results: Bulldogs 26 defeated Newcastle Knights 12 in 3rd Qualifying Final

BULLDOGS BATTER KNIGHTS INTO SUBMISSION WIN 26-12. The Bulldogs kept their premiership dream alive with a solid win over the rudderless Knights at ANZ Stadium on Saturday Night. With star halfback Brett Kimmorley only going to be available for Week Three of the Finals, the Dogs needed to beat the Knights to give him another week of rest and they did the job. Newcastle's two injured players coming in were non-factors. Isaac De Gois aggravated his knee injury in the opening set of six and Zeb Taia was a passenger in defence on the left with a shoulder problem. Newcastle were always going to find it hard to beat a methodical side like Canterbury up the middle and without two of their best attacking weapons they couldn't match the Dogs. That being said they did reduce the margin to 18-12 midway through the second half but they never looked like having enough in the tank to seriously threaten the Bulldogs. Ben Hannant was the best on field with a powerhouse display up the middle, while Jamal Idris had his best game in weeks - terrorising the Knights left edge and David Stagg was his usual effective self. Dogs coach Kevin Moore would be happy with the way his side finished the Knights off late in the game, but would be eager to insert a 'fit enough' Kimmorley back in at #7 to give them a real tilt at the title. The Bulldogs now get a week off and a spot in the Preliminary Final against the winner of the Titans-Eels game, while for the Knights - planning for 2010 begins. The NRL Finals Tweet was on hand to catch all the action that was worthy of a tweet and it has been compiled below in chronological order.
