Round 8 Tips and Late Mail

2014 National Rugby League Premiership
By W D Nicolson - April 24, 2014

Round 8 is here and finally, www.wdnicolson.com tipped at the astronomical rate of 5 from 8 last week!

Yep, one game over .500!!!

Stop it... things are getting out of hand.

Let's see if we can go one better in Round 8 - and we'll know how realistic that is after Friday's slate of 3 games on ANZAC Day.

The Postman's Late Mail is taking a week off I'm afraid, he'll be back for Round 9.

Remember our Game Previews are now purely the essentials in 2014 - I'll try to write very little fluff and you'll simply (entertainingly) get my read on each game and of course the Late Mail.

The 'Special Fried Rice' picks have returned but given it is me v me, every week - I'll just be listing my 'SFR' of the week with the FootyTab Starts as the variation aspect to keep things interesting vs just saying 'this team will win this week - guaranteed'. Though at 3 from 7... the other me is still kicking my butt.

HEADS UP: We will have a new episode of NOT The Footy Show - sometime in the next fortnight. So keep an eye on your iTunes Podcast folders for Episode 151 in the near future.

Round 7 Tipping was goodish with 5/8 (started 4 from 5!) - so Let's get to the Tips!
ROUND 8 TIPS and LATE MAIL
All tips are subject to last minute changes, Game Odds/FootyTab are from Wednesday night and do not update thereafter. Times listed are stadium location LOCAL time.
Friday at Allianz 4:00pm
Dragons $2.95 v $1.42 Roosters
FOOTYTABSGI +7.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Roosters have their front row rotation back in sync and have more points in them... that said - Dragons might stick in this game longer than they did last year. Roosters by 4 points.

Friday at AAMI 6:05pm
Storm $1.36 v $3.20 Warriors
FOOTYTABWAR +9.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Not picking the Warriors unless A. at home or B. with some actual form on the board. So Melbourne at home it is. Storm by 6 points.

Friday at Suncorp 8:00pm
Broncos $2.08 v $1.77 Rabbitohs
FOOTYTABBRI +2.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
No Thaiday and probably no Hoffman... unless Barba cuts loose around the ruck - have to lean Bunnies (had picked Broncos up to Thursday night). Just like the inclusion of George Burgess and Ben Te'o - esp with Thaiday out. This said - have been burnt by the Bunnies before in Brisbane... Rabbitohs by 2 points.

Saturday at Cronulla 3:00pm
Sharks $1.83 v $2.00 Panthers
FOOTYTABPEN +1.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Sorry - missed this summary first time around. Last time I thought the Sharks would bounce back they crushed the Warriors... don't recall if I actually picked them to do it - but this week I think they produce the goods against a Penrith team that still needs to find an avenue to points that doesn't include kicking on the last. Sharks by 2 points.

Saturday at Townsville 5:30pm
Cowboys $1.53 v $2.55 Eels
FOOTYTABPAR +4.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
North Queensland at home after getting 'robbed' last week v Parra on the road after blowing a game they should have won. Hayne in top form but JT and his pack get the job done at home. Cowboys by 6 points.

Saturday at ANZ 7:30pm
Bulldogs $1.45 v $2.80 Knights
FOOTYTABNEW +5.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Newcastle beat Canterbury for fun in recent seasons... so until this trend is overcome - stick with the Knights. Plus Dogs not great v Bunnies for mine, and Knights were wasteful in attack v Broncos before getting run over late. Knights by 4 points.

Sunday at Brookvale 2:00pm
Sea Eagles $1.45 v $2.80 Raiders
FOOTYTABCAN +7.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
No Foran but DCE is back... that's enough for me. Canberra certainly capable but signs still not outstanding despite getting lucky v Melbourne. Canberra win this and do it with some good footy and maybe I start believing. Sea Eagles by 6 points.

Sunday at Leichhardt 3:00pm
Tigers $1.80 v $2.05 Titans
FOOTYTABWST +1.5 Teams Analysed on our NRL Injured List
@NRLTweet's PREDICTION:
Risky taking the Titans on the road against anyone (even at 5-2) - but the Tigers were invited back into their game against Parra last weekend handed a chance to win... don't see the Titans doing that. Tigers at Leichhardt without Farah isn't overly imposing. Go with the Coast. Titans by 2 points.
