NRL Tips Round 9 2010 + NOT The Footy Show Episode 18

Here are The NRL Tweet's Tips for Round 9 of the 2010 NRL Premiership.

The first Representative Games of 2010 kick-off Friday Night with the ANZAC Test Match - Australia v New Zealand and the NSWRL Origin tilt - City Origin v Country Origin.
(Get all the Round 9 NRL Results with game recaps from The NRL Tweet HERE)
As a result the NRL Schedule is very light in Round 9 with the Bulldogs, Raiders, Sharks, Rabbitohs, Tigers, Warriors, Eels, Panthers all getting a bye.

That leaves just four games in Round 9 - Manly-Warringah v St.George-Illawarra on Saturday, Newcastle v Gold Coast & Melbourne v Brisbane on Sunday and Sydney v North Queensland on Monday.

You can find all the Representative Teams here and in NOT The Footy Show Episode 18 (Ep 18 Podcast) we preview all the NRL & Rep Games in Week 9.

Your first look at predictions for Round 9 of the 2010 NRL Premiership (uploaded each & every Tuesday on this site) - includes some Tuesday Pre-Game Dribble and later each week some vital Selection & Fantasy News (updated each Friday with the reliable Late Mail from the Sydney Morning Herald).

ROUND NINE OF THE NRL PREMIERSHIP SEASON 2010
VSea Eagles v Dragons
> Pre-Game Dribble: Manly are sitting nicely at 5-3 but all three losses were games they had chances to win. The Dragons on the other hand are 6-1 and the game they lost was the only game of the year they've been outplayed in. That's the sign of a good side - winning games you are the better team... might sound simple but Manly have dropped 3 games they've been the better team in for long stretches. Dragons might have a host of backup rep players but Manly have enough of their own backing up to tip the scales in the Dragons favour at Brookie.
> Late Selection & Fantasy News (Updated May 6): Matt Cooper is fit! Well fit for the Dragons it appears. We discuss this joke of a situation involving Cooper & Country Origin in the podcast for Round 9. The following players will have to play two games in 24 hours if they back up: Manly (8) - Watmough, Robertson, Hodkinson, Foran, Stewart, Lyon, Matai & Perry; St.George-Illawarra (5) - Morris, Nightingale, Weyman, Creagh, Young. The Dragons keep their spine (Boyd, Soward, Hornby & Priddis) free from rep duty so that should be a huge bonus for them, while Manly have arguably their three best players (Watmough, Stewart & Lyon) all playing rep footy. The Dragons have brought Kyle Stanley & Michael Lett into the squad as cover for Morris & Nightingale, while Manly are unchanged (although young Dean Whare could get the call if Lyon, Robertson or Matai can't backup). (Update May 8) All Manly & St.George-Illawarra players seem to be ok after the rep games Friday Night.
> NRL Tweet's Prediction: Dragons by 10
SUNDAY
VKnights v Titans
> Pre-Game Dribble: Not an easy game to pick. The Titans found a way to beat Manly on the road then used a second half surge to see off the Panthers at Skilled Stadium. Scott Prince back is massive to the Titans unit and they aren't going to be that badly impacted by the rep games. Newcastle were very impressive beating the Broncos (bar the 20min period they squandered a 12-0 lead to trail 22-12 at halftime) and should not be discounted given the game is in Newcastle. To be honest I'm wavering... got the Titans at the moment but am seriously leaning back towards the Knights.
> Selection & Fantasy News (Updated May 6): Newcastle get Steven Simpson back from injury and it looks like Scott Dureau's performance v Brisbane has kept Ben Rogers out of the team. Zeb Taia has been named on the bench but that's only because he's backing up from the ANZAC Test. The following players will have to back up from rep duty on Friday: Newcastle (3) - Sa'u, Taia & Gidley; Gold Coast (3) - Bird, Laffranchi & Minichiello. Scott Prince got through last week without any complications to his thumb so William Zillman will play off the bench. Cameron Ciraldo will only play if Simpson is a late withdrawal. (Update May 8) Newcastle's Zeb Taia suffered a knee complaint during the ANZAC Test but finished the match - he is in doubt.
> NRL Tweet's Prediction: Titans by 8
VStorm v Broncos
> Pre-Game Dribble: Melbourne open their new AAMI Stadium and providing all their rep players back up (given it is the first home game at AAMI - you can bet they will bar serious injury) they will beat the Broncos. But I'm not convinced it'll be by 40... Darren Lockyer is in great touch entering the rep period but should he not backup it'll be the Storm by 40 for sure.
> Selection & Fantasy News (Updated May 6): The following players will have to back up from rep duty on Friday:  Melbourne (7) - Smith, Cronk, Slater, Hoffman, White, Manu, Inglis & Blair; Brisbane (3) - Lockyer, Thaiday & Glenn. The rep drain on Melbourne could be a big factor if this game was on the road but as mentioned above - expect almost all Melbourne players to backup for the first AAMI Park home game. Brisbane have included Ben Te'o in the centres at the expense of Steven Michaels, while Corey Norman, Nick Kenny & Gerard Beale join an extended bench.  Melbourne have named Jesse Bromwich, Hep Cahill & Willie Isa to cover for their rep players but may not be needed. (Update May 8) Cameron Smith suffered an elbow injury that looked bad, he is OUT of the Melbourne team for this game.
> NRL Tweet's Prediction: Storm by 12
MONDAY
VRoosters v Cowboys
> Pre-Game Dribble: Roosters stole a win from the Wests Tigers last Sunday and will be warm favourites here against a Cowboys team that has lost Johnathan Thurston to yet another shoulder injury. Todd Carney didn't set the world on fire at halfback and even though he'll play off the bench for Country - he needs a strong showing here against the Cowboys to really push his State of Origin credentials for NSW.
> Selection & Fantasy News (Updated May 6):
The The following players will have to back up from rep duty on Friday: Sydney (6) - Minichiello, Perrett, Carney, Waerea-Hargreaves, Nu'uausala & Myles (18th man for Australia). North Queensland (2) - O'Donnell & Mason. With Thurston out the Cowboys give Toyota Cup halfback Michael Morgan a chance, while John Williams, Luke O'Donnell & Aaron Payne all return to the team. Once again Nth Qld coach Neil Henry has named a long bench... suggesting he's not sure what his best 17 is yet and we're into Round 9. The Roosters have named Braith Anasta despite him being ruled out of City Origin with an ankle injury, while James Aubusson & Daniel Conn return from injury. Aiden Guerra might be in some doubt after his back seized on him v Wests Tigers last weekend. (Update May 8) Luke O'Donnell picked up a knee injury playing for City Origin - he is in serious doubt for the game.
> NRL Tweet's Prediction: Roosters by 4

ROUND 9 BYES - Eels, Sharks, Tigers, Rabbitohs, Warriors, Raiders, Panthers & Bulldogs.
