THURSDAY - MARCH 1
KNIGHTS $1.61 v $2.34 DRAGONS
STI +3.5 | GAME STATS | @ Hunter Stadium, Newcastle. 7:45pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Warrick Nicolson and Matthew Duncan. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
Newcastle finished 8th last year and St.George-Illawarra finished 5th. Both teams failed to reach the Grand Final.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
KNIGHTS 5 DRAGONS 5
Neither team can win at home recently. In fact the last time a home team won this contest was in 2005.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
NEW: D Boyd, J McManus, W Naiqama, T Tahu, A Uate, K Gidley (c), J Mullen, K Snowden, D Buderus, A Cuthbertson, C Houston, Z Taia, N Costigan.
Bench: M Hilder, R Fa'aoso, J Edwards, A McKinnon.
[Team Changes - Wayne Bennett's first regular season lineup has a couple of shocks, no bigger than the omission of Junior Sa'u from the centres. Timana Tahu and Wes Naiqama are the preferred starters with Kurt Gidley and Darius Boyd taking the five-eighth and fullback spots. Adam Cuthbertson starting ahead of Evarn Tuimavave at prop is the other shock, with the veteran Tuimavave out of the squad entirely. Alex McKinnon is the bolter on the bench. ]
STI: K Stanley, B Morris, B Scott, M Cooper, J Nightingale, J Soward, B Hornby (c), J Latimore, M Rein, M Weyman, M Prior, B Creagh, D Young.
Bench: N Fien, L Ah Mau, T Merrin, J de Belin.
[Team Changes - Beau Scott goes back to the centres, where he played before Mark Gasnier returned in 2010. Chase Stanley misses out. Jeremy Latimore starts at prop for the injured Dan Hunt, while Trent Merrin had to settle for a bench spot alongside Leeson Ah Mau and Jack de Belin. Mitch Rein starts at hooker with Nathan Fien on the bench. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Newcastle start their exciting new era under Wayne Bennett the same day St.George-Illawarra begin their slightly concerning post-Bennett era. Hunter Stadium should have 30,000 plus Novocastrians and even if the weather closes in, I expect them to fire up the red and blue to a strong victory in Round 1. My concern with the Dragons is staying with a good attacking team late, which I expect the Knights to be. Newcastle here.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - There is talk that Matt Cooper could be in doubt for the Dragons, due to family reasons, but he is expected to play.

FRIDAY - MARCH 2
EELS $1.61 v $2.34 BRONCOS
PAR +4.5 | GAME STATS | @ Parramatta Stadium, Parramatta. 7:45pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Nigel Wilbow and Michael McLucas. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
Parramatta finished 14th last season, and Brisbane finished 3rd before falling one game short of the Grand Final.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
EELS 4 BRONCOS 6
Brisbane won the only clash last year 16-12 in Round 17 at Parramatta. The teams have split the last 4 games.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
PAR: L Burt, K Sio, E Tonga, R Morgan, C Blair, B Roberts, C Sandow, T Mannah, M Keating, M Allgood, N Hindmarsh (c), T Lasalo, J Horo.
Bench: C McGuire, FF MoiMoi, J Poore, R Maitua, T Tautai.
[Team Changes - Reni Maitua is a surprise inclusion after missing the pre-season but there is no Willie Tonga or Jarryd Hayne. Luke Burt goes to fullback and Cheyse Blair comes in on the wing. Tim Mannah is ok and will start with Mitchell Allgood at prop. Taniela Lasalo replaces the injured Ben Smith. Justin Poore is also named, while Taulima Tautai is 18th man. ]
BRI: J Hoffman, G Beale, J Reed, J Hodges, J Yow Yeh, C Norman, P Wallace, B Hannant, A McCullough, S Thaiday (c), A Glenn, B Te'o, C Parker.
Bench: B Hunt, J McGuire, M Gillett, S Anderson.
[Team Changes Corey Norman grabs the vacant five-eighth jumper ahead of Ben Hunt, who is on the bench. Ben Hannant will be partnered by skipper Sam Thaiday at prop in the absence of the suspended Petero Civoncieva, with Josh McGuire and Scott Anderson on the bench. Thaiday's shift allows Ben Te'o to start in the second row, with Matt Gillett on the bench. Corey Parker is fit to play. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Unless Jarryd Hayne plays, I can't touch the Eels - even at home. Brisbane have a couple of concerns (including Jack Reed) but there's also no Willie Tonga for the Eels. Even without Darren Lockyer, if Brisbane turn up switched on, they'll beat Parramatta.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - There is talk Jack Reed is in doubt, with Dane Gagai on standby. Nick Slyney also travelled with the Broncos and will play for the injured Scott Anderson. Jarryd Hayne remains a 50/50 chance.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
BRONCOS by 4.

SATURDAY - MARCH 3
RAIDERS $2.49 v $1.55 STORM
CAN +4.5 | GAME STATS | @ Canberra Stadium, Canberra. 5:30pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Greg Delaney and Justin Davies. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
Canberra narrowly avoided the wooden spoon finishing 15th last year, while Melbourne won the Minor Premiership before losing in the preliminary final to the Warriors.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
RAIDERS 2 STORM 8
Melbourne have dominated the Raiders since 2003, losing just twice. But Canberra have won 2 of the last 5 games.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
CAN: J Dugan, B Ferguson, J Croker, S Berrigan, R Robinson, T Campese (c), J McCrone, D Shillington, T Waddell, T Learoyd-Lahrs, J Papalii, B Harrison, S Fensom.
Bench: G Buttriss, J Thompson, D Tilse, B White, T Thurling.
[Team Changes - Strongest team possible from David Furner. Josh McCrone relegates Sam Williams to NSW Cup, while Croker and Berrigan beat out Thompson for the centre spots. Thurling is 18th man as cover for Learoyd-Lahrs who has a foot injury. Oh, and Campese is back. ]
MEL: B Slater, M Duffie, D Nielsen, J O'Neill, A Quinn, G Widdop, C Cronk, J Bromwich, C Smith (c), B Norrie, S Manu, R Hoffman, T Lowrie.
Bench: R Hinchcliffe, K Proctor, S Vave, M Greenfield, S Waqa, R Kostjasyn.
[Team Changes - Billy Slater is 100% fit and starts at fullback. Justin O'Neill beats out Maurice Blair and Will Chambers for a centre spot, while Anthony Quinn edges Sisa Waqa for the wing. Jason Ryles misses with a hamstring injury, giving Siosaia Vave and Michael Greenfield a chance to debut for the club. Ryan Hoffman returns to the club in the second row. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Canberra just find it hard to beat the Storm - no matter where they play. Don't read to much into Canberra's win in Melbourne last year, they've lost like 45 of the last 47. Having said that, Canberra will have a crack here but I don't think even Terry Campese will overcome Melbourne if the forwards don't dominate. Storm for me.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - Tom Learoyd-Lahrs will definitely play. Josh Dugan also re-signed on Thursday for two more seasons.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
STORM by 4.

SATURDAY - MARCH 3
PANTHERS $2.09 v $1.76 BULLDOGS
PEN +1.5 | GAME STATS | @ Centrebet Stadium, Penrith. 7:30pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Maria Tsialis and Matt Spillane. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
Penrith finished 12th last year, while Canterbury just missed the finals finishing 9th.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
PANTHERS 7 BULLDOGS 3
Penrith have won the last 3 games , including two at Centrebet Stadium.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
PEN: L Coote, D Simmons, M Jennings, B Tighe, M Gordon, T Burns, L Walsh, S McKendry, K Kingston, T Grant, L Lewis (c), C Ciraldo, N Smith.
Bench: D Weston, C Armit, N Seluini, C Newton, B Austin, D Galea.
[Team Changes - Michael Gordon has been shuffled to the wing for Lachlan Coote with Sandor Earl missing out entirely. Brad Tighe returns from an ankle injury to partner Michael Jennings in the centres. Clint Newton may play as an extra prop after being named on the bench, while Luke Lewis is listed in the second row and Nathan Smith at lock. Blake Austin is 18th man. ]
CBY: B Barba, S Turner, J Morris, J Wright, B Goodwin, J Reynolds, T Hodkinson, A Tolman, M Ennis (c), S Kasiano, F Pritchard, D Halatau, D Stagg.
Bench: J Graham, G Eastwood, C Payne, J Romelo, K Keating, M Taupau.
[Team Changes - New signing James Graham is on the bench, with Sam Kasiano set to start at prop. Dene Halatau beats out Corey Payne and Greg Eastwood for the available backrow spot, while gun youngsters Josh Jackson and Dale Finucane play NSW Cup. Josh Reynolds has beaten Kris Keating for the five-eighth spot, while Joel Romelo is on the bench as cover for an underdone Michael Ennis. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Penrith impressed me in their final trial with their style of play. Regardless of the result - they threw the ball around and I'm concerned the Dogs might not adapt too quickly to Des Hasler's game plan that worked so well at Manly. That was to attack at will, and remember Canterbury did anything but that under Kevin Moore. Old habits are tough to break, so Penrith for me in a tight one.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - Aiden Tolman may not play due to a hamstring injury, with Martin Taupau on standby. Blake Austin is expected to be included on the final bench.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
PANTHERS by 2.

SATURDAY - MARCH 3
COWBOYS $1.55 v $2.49 TITANS
GLD +4.5 | GAME STATS | @ Dairy Farmers Stadium, Townsville. 7:30pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Michael McLucas and Matthew Duncan. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
The Cowboys finished 7th last year but were eliminated in week one of the finals, while the Titans collected the wooden spoon in 16th.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
COWBOYS 5 TITANS 5
The Cowboys have won 4 of the last 5, including both games last season.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
NQL: M Bowen, A Graham, B Tate, K Linnett, A Winterstein, J Thurston (c), R Thompson, M Scott (c), A Payne, J Tamou, G Cooper, G Hall, D Johnson.
Bench: J Segeyaro, S Bolton, J Taumalolo, A Sims.
[Team Changes - Antonio Winterstein and Kane Linnett have forced their way in to the three-quarter line pushing Kalifa Fai-Fai Loa into the QLD Cup. Ray Thompson is fit, so he'll start at halfback alongside Johnathan Thurston with Robert Lui not ready yet. Tariq Sims is close to a return but his absence allows Jason Taumalolo to get a run on the bench. Cory Paterson misses out. Brent Tate is under an injury cloud with a rib injury. ]
GLD: W Zillman, S Michaels, J Idris, D Peyroux, D Mead, J Rankin, S Prince (c), L Bailey, K Lawton, N Myles, G Bird, M Minichiello, A Harrison.
Bench: L Douglas, M White, B Ridge, M Srama, L O'Dwyer.
[Team Changes - There's no Beau Champion which was a surprise, the club stating he has a busted finger. Dom Peyroux starts for him alongside Jamal Idris in the centres. Kevin Gordon also isn't ready with knee soreness and Steve Michaels gets his spot back. Luke Douglas is benched in favour of Nate Myles at prop, while Mark Minichiello holds his second row spot. Matt Srama is a surprise addition to the bench after missing the pre-season, with Kayne Lawton starting at hooker. Jordan Rankin gets the #6 and Will Zillman the #1 in John Cartwright's smartest move so far this year. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
The Titans may have bought big but their backline still looks suspect. Scott Prince must rediscover his game to have the Titans be competitive. The Cowboys counter with Johnathan Thurston, so Cowboys please.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - Brent Tate is looking unlikely, with Kalifa Fai-Fai Loa to come onto the wing and Antonio Winterstein to move into the centres. Round 1 may be too soon for Matt Srama who didn't play any of the trials.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
COWBOYS by 8.

SUNDAY - MARCH 4
WARRIORS $1.65 v $2.26 SEA EAGLES
MAN +2.5 | GAME STATS | @ Eden Park, Auckland. 2:00pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Warrick Nicolson and Craig Buchanan. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
These two teams met in the Grand Final last year with the Sea Eagles prevailing. The Warriors showed good trial form, whereas Manly went 0-2 including a loss in the WCC.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
WARRIORS 3 SEA EAGLES 7
Manly grabbed the GF (which is the game that truly matters), capping a 4-0 run since 2010. The Warriors last won this game in New Zealand in 2007.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
WAR: K Locke, B Tupou, K Hurrell, J Ropati, M Vatuvei, J Maloney, S Johnson, R Packer, N Friend, B Matulino, F Mateo, S Mannering (c), E Taylor.
Bench: L Brown, Sione Lousi, B Henry, U Ta'ai, G Fisiiahi, K Inu, A Mara.
[Team Changes - Konrad Hurrell forced his way into the team ahead of Krisnan Inu during the pre-season. Russell Packer and Ben Matulino start at prop with Jacob Lillyman and Sam Rapira injured. Sione Lousi, Ukuma Ta'ai and Ben Henry are the three players who will share the load on the bench. Nathan Friend debuts at hooker, while Jerome Ropati is finally healthy again. ]
MAN: B Stewart, M Oldfield, J Lyon (c), S Matai, D Williams, K Foran, D Cherry-Evans, J King (c), M Ballin, B Kite, A Watmough, T Williams, G Stewart.
Bench: Buhrer, Mauro, Lussick, Rose, Taufua.
[Team Changes - This is the same 17 that contested the World Club Challenge with only Joe Galuvao the noticeable absentee from Manly's strongest lineup. Michael Oldfield and David Williams have held off Ben Farrar for the wing spots, with rookie Jorge Taufua on the bench as cover. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
The absence of the Warriors two starting props from last year - Lillyman and Rapira - is a massive concern against a battle hardened Manly pack. Going to love watching Hurrell play but Manly are too good a team to be outsiders (as premiers) against a team that I'm still not convinced is a premiership winning side. Will be interesting to see what impact Friend has. Manly for me.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - The Warriors sent Fisiiahi, Mara and Inu back to the NSW Cup to play for the Auckland Vulcans on Saturday.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
SEA EAGLES by 10.

SUNDAY - MARCH 4
TIGERS $1.46 v $2.75 SHARKS
CRO +6.5 | GAME STATS | @ Leichhardt Oval, Sydney. 2:00pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Matthew Vickers and Benjamin Hoese. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
The Wests Tigers finished 4th last year but were bundled out of the finals in week two, while the Sharks finished 13th.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
TIGERS 9 SHARKS 1
This has been the Tigers game for a long time. Cronulla's only win came at Leichhardt in 2008.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
WTG: J Tedesco, B Ryan, B Ayshford, C Lawrence, M Utai, B Marshall, T Moltzen, A Woods, R Farah (c), K Galloway, A Blair, G Ellis, C Heighington.
Bench: L Fulton, M Groat, M Bell, T Humble, J Reddy.
[Team Changes - James Tedesco gets the fullback spot, with Matt Utai edging out Mitch Brown (NSW Cup) for the open wing spot with Lote Tuqiri hurt. Liam Fulton is on the bench with Matt Groat, Matt Bell and one of Tom Humble or Joel Reddy. The team also announced that Gareth Ellis would return to England for 2013. ]
CRO: N Gardner, S Mills, B Pomeroy, C Best, M Wright, W Graham, T Carney, B Gibbs, I De Gois, B Ross, J Smith, A Tupou, P Gallen (c).
Bench: A Fifita, S Tagataese, J Morris, M Taufua, J Bukuya, J Green.
[Team Changes - Stewart Mills and Matthew Wright are the first choice wingers, with a predictable lineup across the rest of the field. Andrew Fifita and Bryce Gibbs will face their old team the Tigers, while Mark Taufua, Jayson Bukuya and Jon Green look to be fighting for one bench spot between them. Todd Carney is as expected, the halfback. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Can't touch the Sharks til they win a few games they shouldn't. Once again Cronulla look better on paper but the Tigers also improved and have Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall to counter any brilliance that Todd Carney brings to the table. Tigers should kick away late.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - Paul Gallen will play after overcoming illness this week. Joel Reddy misses out for the Tigers with an ankle injury.
THE NRL TWEET'S PICK
TIGERS by 10.

MONDAY - MARCH 5
RABBITOHS $1.91 v $1.91 ROOSTERS
EVEN LINE | GAME STATS | @ ANZ Stadium, Sydney. 7:00pm Kick-Off.
NRL TWEET PLAYER OF THE YEAR VOTERS
Warrick Nicolson and Matt Spillane. Follow #NRLTweetPOTY for every Vote in 2012.
COMING IN
Souths finished 10th last year, while the Roosters finished 11th.
HEAD TO HEAD LAST 10
RABBITOHS 4 ROOSTERS 6
These two teams opened the season last year, with the Roosters holding on 40-29. The Roosters have won 3 of the last 4.
TUESDAY TEAM NEWS
SOU: D Farrell, M King, S Corrigan, G Inglis, N Merritt, J Sutton, A Reynolds, S Burgess, N Peats, R Asotasi, D Taylor, E Pettybourne, M Crocker.
Bench: D Tyrrell, C McQueen, S Geddes, J Clark, N Areaiiti, F Talanoa.
[Team Changes - Dylan Farrell did the job in the Charity Shield according to coach Michael Maguire so he pushes Nathan Merritt to the flank. Greg Inglis is back from an ankle injury in a huge boost and will team on the left with Matt King. Sam Burgess moves to prop to cover for his brother Luke who hurt his foot and is out long term. Chris McQueen is on the bench, along with a shocking inclusion - Scott Geddes who was thought to have ruptured his biceps a month ago. ]
SYD: A Minichiello, J Carney, J Leilua, M Aubusson, S Perrett, B Anasta (c), M Pearce, J Waerea-Hargreaves, J Friend, L Tasi, A Guerra, B Cordner, F-P Nuuausala.
Bench: T Arona, M Masoe, M Kennedy, D Mortimer, A Mitchell, P Tagive.
[Team Changes - No Tautau Moga, but he should be back on deck in Round 2. Joseph Leilua starts at centre with Mitchell Aubusson, leaving Peni Tagive on the bench. Shaun Kenny-Dowall's kidney problem could be long term. Braith Anasta returns at five-eighth, so Daniel Mortimer settles for a bench spot. Lama Tasi starts at prop with Martin Kennedy and Mose Masoe on the bench. ]
THURSDAY GAME PREVIEW
Toughest game of the round to pick because one team was average in the trials and the other was better than everyone expected. I've tipped the Roosters based on the Pearce-Anasta combination being somewhat settled, and I won't invest in the Bunnies til I see the Sutton-Reynolds combo win a game convincingly. Roosters.
TIPPING AND FANTASY LATE MAIL
SMH and Other Late Mail - There remains a doubt over Greg Inglis, while Tautau Moga could be a late inclusion for the Roosters. Reports also surfaced Saturday that Nathan Merritt may not play due to a toe injury he picked up in the All Stars game. Braith Anasta was a late withdrawal on Monday, while Merritt is considered long odds to play. Daniel Mortimer will start at five-eighth.
